Technical Field Expert at Syngenta in Uganda


Job Title: Technical Field Expert-QSL/SY/10/13-1

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver commercial trials to build deep understanding of Syngenta product offers and maximize the impact of product launches and the overall commercial portfolio on sales and market share.
Contribute to the development of training tools and materials to educate stakeholders on new solutions.
Conduct an agreed number of field trials through all stages from initial planning to completion of final report (including spraying where trials are conducted internally)
Manage trial sites and demonstration platforms on commercial farms including farmer liaison on site selection and in field trial layout
Crop expertise: Provide agronomic support to the sales force, key account managers, channel partners and grower customers
Solution and product launch maximization: identify potential solutions to address grower needs and support new product launches by providing technical input for launch preparation
Competitor knowledge gathering, gap identification and reporting.
Manage and deliver close technical relationships with key Distributor accounts & influencers
Develop product protocols and plans as defined by campaigns and company strategy and lead results interpretation
Engage in product stewardship activities and reviews

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The applicant should possess a Degree in agronomy or related degree
Five or more years of relevant experience
Hold critical internal and external crop expertise across a range of agronomic and market conditions
Understanding of the role / value of technical information in a commercial environment • Knowledge of field trials techniques in all crop protection disciplines - replicated and demonstration trials - and of quality standards (GEP)
In-depth crop & product knowledge - labelled and actual use patterns
In-field technical experience as well as commercial awareness
Some previous experience of field trials Relationships with key national influencers Critical leadership capabilities
Develops clear strategies and sets aligned objectives for individuals and teams
Gains commitment of key reports and stakeholders in a compelling way
Manages risk and is able to work with uncertainty
Provides opportunities for learning, development and growth
Coaches people to connect across functions and boundaries to spark innovation Critical technical and professional capabilities
Delivers distinctive value proposition to customer
Understands customer needs
Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, as well as presentation.
Relevant national training qualifications is critical

Languages knowledge: English and Swahili

Job Summary:

The Ag-Inputs Specialist will coordinate and promote agro-input activities among stakeholders that should eventually lead to improved farmer access to affordable genuine products. He /She will work with various stakeholders to promote improved agro-input usage among farmers as a means of increasing yields and incomes. She/he will also support the emergency of Village stockists through coaching and mentoring and link them to Seed companies and agro Input distributors to improve input delivery systems and create demand for use of quality and genuine inputs at grassroots level. She/he will be required to work closely with the USAID/Uganda Ag-Inputs Activity and other government related programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and promote models that strengthen relationships between smallholder farmers and input companies (Village agents & traders) to facilitate better access to inputs and output marketing
Through a facilitative approach increase farmer access to improved inputs (seed, fertilizer, production services and crop protection products) by stimulating demand via demonstrations and awareness that also stimulate competitive input supply chain development and include an exit strategy
Through a facilitative approach increase smallholder farmers' knowledge about the benefits of using high quality inputs;
Coach and mentor agro-input dealers to provide embedded services like spraying, farmer trainings, demonstrations and other new business opportunities;
Collaborate closely with USAID Ag-input and other USAID and Government of Uganda Inputs related programs
Assist in the establishment of linkages with private sector service providers, buyers, input and supply firms
Co-ordinate and manage stakeholders meetings and focus group discussions which include both public and private sector Stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The candidate must possess a University degree in Agriculture-related field.
A post graduate diploma/degree in agribusiness will be an added advantage.
2 5-plus years' experience working in agricultural inputs or donor funded Agricultural input programs;
Proven experience in project development new business development
Team worker / team builder, proven ability to inspire.
A go-getter who gets things done.
Excellent communication skills
Computer literacy skills
Experience in promoting linkages among actors

Duties and Responsibilities:

Initiates and develops ideas on curricular reforms.
Develops and. prepares subject syllabi, teachers’ manuals, texts and other related curriculum materials.
Organizes and conducts writing workshops.
Writes, coordinates and edits curriculum units developed by the panel and other teachers.
Organizes and conducts orientation courses for teachers.
Popularizes education in the relevant subject.
Services the subject panel by planning and convening meetings, preparing working papers and furnishing the necessary data and relevant research reports.
Any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should possess a  Masters degree in Agriculture or related fields
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Diploma/Certificate in Agricultural related field
A qualification in education will be an added advantage
At least four years teaching experience at a technical college or institution of higher learning and field experience in agricultural related work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for supervising the management of natural forests.
Responsible for the preparation of annual business operational plans;
Developing guidelines, policies, strategies, systems and working methods to ensure sustainable management of the natural forests;
Planning and managing budgets for the Directorate as allocated under the annual operating plan;
Managing the community partnership processes by supervising the initiation, administration and maintenance of partnerships with other agencies and institutions.
Developing financing and funding strategies for management of Natural Forests in accordance with the NFA Business Plan.
Oversee, mentor and monitor staff performance.
Supervising and providing advice to private tree farmers on the establishment, maintenance and tending of the trees.

Job Description:
ACDI/VOCA   was awarded  the USAID  funded  PL 480  Title II Development  Food  Assistance  Program  called  Resiliency through wealth , Agriculture in Karamoja  (RWANU)  being implemented in Karamoja Uganda .


Job Requirements:
Duties
•    Monitoring and  evaluation of  agricultural  economic indicators  for the   program  , designing and implementing  systems  for monitoring farm productivity , agricultural input costs, change in household incomes, and  market access .
•    The  Agricultural  Economist will perform  economic  analysis on the  impact of value chain activities  on  farming households.
Qualifications
•    A Bachelor’s  degree  in agricultural economics , economics or  statistics .
•    Over  5 years  experience in monitoring  and evaluation of  agricultural  value chain programs  and in-depth knowledge  of financial  or  economic analysis .
•    Expertise  in design and implementation of  agricultural  related  research  and data  analysis  is a plus .
