Library Assistant Jobs in Uganda at Uganda Management Institute (UMI)


Job Title:  LIBRARY ASSISTANT-KAMPALA CENTRE (1 Position)
Job Description

Reports to: Head Library Centre Manager-Gulu

Salary Scale: UM6

(a) Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) Assisting library users in locating library materials
(ii) Processing the loaned and returned books
(iii) Sorting and shelving books and other reading materials
(iv) Tidying shelves and library furniture
(v) Maintaining library records and performing security checks
(vi) Opening and closing the library at stipulated times
(vii) Ensuring the security of library materials (B) Person Specifications:
(i) Diploma in Library and Information Management from a reorgan¬ized Institution/University
(ii) Should have self-drive, should be results-oriented, versatile, cus¬tomer -focused, innovative and a team player.
(iii) Should have two years relevant experience preferably from a higher Institution of learning.

(iv) Should be computer literate.

(i) FULL TIME STAFF

The successful candidate will, on being confirmed in appointment, be offered five-year renewable contracts, a competitive basic salary complemented by housing allowance, medical allowance, transport allowance and an attractive gratuity scheme. Staff are also provided with support for continuous personal development.

6. Supervise and appraise Library Assistants in line with the Human Resource policy.
Person Specification

 Key responsibilities:

1.    Development, control, management and coordination of all library and information services for the university.

4.    Assist the Univetsity in fundraising to support capacity building activities for library staff.

6.    Secretary to the Library Committee



Requirement:
Requirements (Minimum):

1.    Masters’ degree in Library and

Information Science from a recognized University.

2.    Knowledge of modern library

conferences and/or workshops.

3.    At least five (5) years post-qualification experience at managerial level in a reputable institution library.

4.    Practical computer skills with prior use of library software packages.

5.    Publications in reputable journals/books.

6.    Good communication skills

Key functions

  • Thorough checking of all the library clients before they enter and leave the library premises 
  • Ensuring that all un acceptable items ,gargets that are prohibited in the library entrance on the shelves specified 
  • Ensuring that there is maximum order in the library i.e clients observe silence, sitting, arrangements , respect for one another among others 
  • To safeguard all library property and ensure that non is taken out premises without permission from the university librarian 


Minimum requirements
