CARANA is seeking a dynamic and innovative Chief of Party for an upcoming multi-million dollar USAID-funded food security and nutrition project in Uganda. This program will target Ugandan communities with the highest levels of malnutrition and poverty by increasing incomes, improving nutrition and empowering women and vulnerable populations through community-based interventions including expanding access to appropriate agricultural inputs and supporting increased agricultural production and marketing.
Candidates for this position should be senior level professionals with a proven track record of successfully implementing and managing agricultural, food security, or nutrition programs in countries with a socio–cultural and economic situation similar to Uganda. The COP will be responsible for oversight of the entire project, and will be required to work with various stakeholders, including high level government and USAID officials.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in agriculture, business, trade or other relevant graduate degree; • At least 10 years of technical or managerial experience in value chain development, food security or livelihoods development programs in African countries; • Demonstrated excellent communications and writing abilities and superior interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; • Extensive knowledge of USAID administrative and procurement practices; • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing alliances with the private sector and counterparts at the highest levels of government; • Familiarity with the social-economic landscape of East Africa is preferred; and
• Previous COP experience in Africa is preferred.

Regional HR Officer Job Opportunity at ICCO - Uganda

Job Title : Regional HR Officer
The job objective is to support the regional management in establishing and maintaining well-functioning teams.
 
Tasks
•·          Ensure proper implementation of ICCO policy and practice as laid out in the Terms of Employment.
•·          Finalise HR manuals and develop the current Terms of Employment and adjust these to Eastern DRC and South-Sudan.
•·          Identify recruitment agencies and supervise their recruitment processes.
•·          Facilitate self-executed recruitment processes: set-up vacancy advertisements, liaise with HR Networks, newspapers/ recruitment websites, receive applications, assist in short-listing, organize interview rounds, liaise with authorities when needed.
•·          Organize induction for new staff.
•·          Provide support for non-national staff + families including housing, schooling for children, etc.
•·          Maintain individual files per staff member
•·          Organize bi-yearly salary surveys in the 3 countries.
•·          Make sure performance reviews are followed up throughout the line management. If training is agreed, follow up training/ assist staff member finding appropriate training opportunities.
•·          Support the three offices' office management/ administration to remain updated on labor law in the 3 countries, HR issues and to have professional relations with respective labor offices.
 
Qualifications and experience
•·          Over 5 years HR experience in a NGO setting
•·          Substantial regional experience
•·          Relevant education for the job
•·          Excellent language skills in English, and good command of French, or ability to learn the language fast

Child Protection and Participation

War Child program in Uganda
Since 2004 War Child Holland (WCH) has been working in Northern Uganda and currently operates in Acholi, Lango and Karamoja (Abim) with a country office in Kampala. The programme aims at improving psycho-social well being of children and youth in former war and/or conflict zones, through education, child protection and psychosocial support interventions, to this end War Child seeks to empower children and youth and promote a supportive and protective environment.
The job
The main and overall roles of the Program Development Advisor: Child Protection and Participation (PDA-CPP): to advise on content development and the quality of child protection programming within WCH Uganda; build the capacity of WCH and partner staff to deliver quality child protection activities; ensure that child participation and child rights are mainstreamed throughout the organisation in Uganda. The organisation has the objective to nationalise this position eventually.
The PDA-CPP reports to the Programme Development Manager (PDM) and is part of the Programme Development Unit.
Responsibilities
Technical Advice and Support
• Provides technical support and (proactive) advice on implementation of existing child protection projects & activities and on the development of new content;
• Provides technical support and advice to ensure implementation of existing case management minimum standards and guidelines; and monitoring and analysis of case management data;
• Assists with monitoring program implementation and measure program effectiveness;
• Supports the harmonization of child protection activities and methodologies throughout the organisation and promotes a child rights based approach to all programming;
• Technical focal point for monitoring and implementation of the Child Safety Policy;
• Contributes to proposal development and report writing in relation to child protection, participation and child rights based projects.
Tool Development
• Takes the lead in developing (and review) of required materials, tools, approaches, methodologies etc. to achieve children protection project and strategic objectives;
• Leads and facilitates a process of developing a strategy to mainstream child participation in the organisation;
• Supports the development and application of tools and formats for planning, monitoring and evaluation.
Coaching and Capacity Building
• Assess and proactively advise PDM on staff and partner organisations training needs in child protection, participation and child rights;
• Provide training of trainers, on-the-job training, coaching and support to WCH and partner staff;
• Review and coordinate the delivery of child safety training for staff and partners;
• Train and coach a national PDA on Child Protection and Participation.
Representation and Networking
• Represent WCH in relevant meetings and coordination platforms;
• Liaise with professional counterparts of (inter)national organisations and government ministries.
Profile
• A relevant BSc and Masters in social work, development, psychology, child protection or other relevant field. Or extensive relevant work experience in lieu of graduate degree;
• Minimum three-years of relevant experience in a similar position within an (I)NGO in a post conflict setting;
• Extensive experience of training and capacity building junior, senior staff and partner organisations;
• Proven technical knowledge and experience of community based child protection programming
• Strong advisory and coaching skills;
• Proactive, creative, able to think of innovative and/or alternative solutions;
• Strong social and communication skills for coaching and advising;
• Ability to inspire and motivate;
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
• Diplomacy and negotiation skills;
• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative M&E tools is desirable as well as knowledge on the context and culture of (Northern) Uganda and Karamoja;
• Stress resilient – able to cope with deadlines and multi-task;
• Affinity with WCH principles.
