This is challenging opportunity that requires a highly dedicated media professional with requisite management competencies and strong working experience in a busy TV newsroom. HEAD OF NEWS
The overall responsibility for this position is the management of the entire news department’s operations, staff and other resources, in order to ensure effective delivery of the station’s news products.
In addition to responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, and ensuring output of accurate and well researched stories that adhere to NTV’s editorial principles and the media code of ethics, you will be expected to offer strategic insight and momentum to the news department and drive new product development.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the day-to-day editorial content of the company’s TV channel. You will, therefore, control and direct all editorial activities and offer advice and guidance to the journalists and editors, so that you ensure strict adherence to the approved editorial policy, objectives, and set standards.
You will monitor NTV (U)’s daily editorial performance against the approved policy, objectives and established quality standards, in particular, those relating to content, comprehensiveness, accuracy, independence, objectivity, fairness and balance in presentation of news and current affairs, and in case of any deviation, take immediate corrective action through the responsible supervising producer or editor.
Effectively manage and supervise on day-to-day newsroom operations
Coach, mentor and guide the news team, to ensure high standards of performance in all relevant aspects of journalism.
Cultivate and maintain effective contact with prominent political, business, social, education, diplomatic and religious personalities and institutions throughout Uganda (and elsewhere as necessary) to support the news function, portray a high image of the company as a news organization and also keep abreast of any developments which could have a bearing on editorial aspects of news broadcasts in Uganda.
You will work closely with a team of news producers/editors and will hold regular and/or ad hoc (as necessary), briefing meetings with them so as to brief on any developments which could have a bearing on news gathering and editing of the company’s news outlets.
Participate in Nation Media Group editorial product development and quality control committees to ensure appropriate development of editorial content and to ensure that factual and any other errors are eliminated from the company’s news and current affairs programmes.
In undertaking your role and duties, you will report directly to the General Manager, as well as maintain close contact and reference with the Group’s Editorial Director
Requirement:
Postgraduate university qualifications in Journalism.
A relevant basic University degree.
Proficiency and fluency in the English language.
Deep understanding of news content planning and editorial strategies; and a strong ability to execute plans and strategies through others and on your own.
Strong passion for news and the ability to critically analyze news events.
Ability to work long and odd hours under tight deadlines, to think fast and give effective directions in a fast paced media environment.
Have a keen eye for detail, thoroughness and meticulous execution.
At least 7 years experience in a real time news environment.
Prior team leadership experience and strong ability to build and maintain consensus.

Sub-Grants Coordinator -1 position Summary of position.
Reporting to the Program Manager – NUWEP, the Sub- Grants Coordinator’s key role will be to provide support, coordinate and supervise the sub-grants management process (selection) disbursement and monitoring) for both local & international sub grantees plus strengthening institutional capacities to ensure effective and efficient utilization of funds.
Key responsibilities and task include:
To coordinate the Sub-Grantee selection process • Responsible for coordinating disbursements and carry out Sub-Grant monitoring with all the budget holders • Responsible for the development , implementation and monitoring of the Capacity Development Plan for all sub- grantees and CARE staff • In charge of Sub-Grants Information Management and ensuring that the Programme Manager and Country office sub coordinator are provided with monthly updates • Responsible for providing oversight supervision and advise to the Programme Manager on any donor compliance related issues to ensure consistency.
Requirement:
Minimum of University degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
Professional Accounting qualifications e.g. CPA, ACCA, CIMA is required
Computer skills in MS Office Application and relevant database software is a 'must'
Knowledge of INGO operations and sub-grantee management is preferred
3 years experience at a middle or senior management level in accounting, auditing and grant management
Ability to carry out audits, trainings and assess financial risks plus wide knowledge on grant management processes
A team player with excellent inter personal, communication, presentation, planning, organising, supervisory, analytical and decision making skills are desired.

Summary of position
Reporting to the Programme Quality and Learning Coordinator, the Documentation and information offer key role will be to support the impact measurement and knowledge management (M&E aspect) within the programme quality and learning component plus utilization of multimedia/ICT
Key Responsibilities and tasks
Application of multimedia in documentation of evidence based Monitoring & Evaluation • Managing multimedia projects like photography, filming, producing videos • Compile good practices, Most Significant Changes & support researches and surveys • Responsible for information management and maintaining a resource centre for the programme for easy accessibility and institutional memories • Responsible for designing visibility products like interactive video clips, fliers, brochures, reports plus maintaining program web link and creating/maintaining social media accounts • Support the Programme quality and learning unit in monitoring programme performance and impacts.
Requirement:
A minimum requirement of a degree in Mass communication or Journalism, Library and information science or Information Science and Technology
2 -5 years experience in information and records management
 Proven experience in videographer/photography is required • Knowledge of multi-media platform and software (adobe Photoshop, premier pro)
Creativity and new-media savvy • Knowledge of IT and data management e.g. website maintenance and social networking
A team player with excellent inter personal, communication, training, presentation, Planning, organising, Supervision analytical and Leadership skills.
