Natural Forest Management Specialist Job Vacancy at National Forestry Authority


Job Title:                NATURAL FOREST MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST(1 Position)
Reports to:                    Coordinator Natural Forests
Duty Station:                Kampala
Salary Scale:                  NFA 4
Terms of Employment:  3 years contract (Renewable)
Job Summary: Take lead in the development and implementation of natural forests standards,
guidelines and coordination with related implementing agencies and partners.
Responsibilities and tasks:
Participate in development of site specific criteria& indicators responsible Forest Management
Develop guidelines relating to implementation of Criteria &Indicators
Ensuring implementation of strategies for species conservation (in or ex-situ).
Linking NFA to a certification schemes for plantation and natural forests.
Linking the Directorate of Natural Forests into the  ongoing Climate Change Activities including
REDD
Prepare and submit regular reports to the Coordinator Natural Forest Management.
Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly reports to Coordinator Natural Forest Management.
Linking NFA with other organizations working on Natural Forest Management in or outside
Uganda.
Minimum Qualifications, experience and skills.
Bachelors Degree in Forestry.
Five (5) years working experience.    
The position demands a person with Customer  care/attitude towards clients,  Confidence and
Commitment to  work, Knowledge of Natural forest management, GIS and Mapping, watershed and
Land use planning, environmental management/ EIA.
Knowledge of land tenure systems and related legal implications, Natural resources conservation and management would be an added advantage.

Range/Plantation Manager Jobs at National Forestry Authority (NFA)


Job Title:      RANGE/ PLANTATION MANAGER
Reports to:         Director Natural Forests/ Plantations
Duty Station:   Transferable
Salary Scale:       4
Terms of Employment: 3 years contract (Renewable).
Job Summary:
The Range/ Plantation Manager is responsible for providing technical support to the Directorate on
the establishment and management of Range/ Plantations.9
Responsibilities and tasks:
 Take the lead in the preparing of annual operational plans, plantation forest management
       plans and budgets within the stipulated deadline and guide and coordinate the  
implementation of planned activities
 Inspect field activities to make sure that technical and ethical standards are implemented
      and work is done according to the set specifications
 Ensure that NFA activities of the designated plantation are linked to the forestry plans
            of relevant District Local Government(s).
 Participate in the relevant District Council meetings, including those organized by other
           Stakeholders.
 Undertake field supervision of seed collection, establishment and protection of seed
            sources
 Conduct a preliminary estimation of growing stock and allowable cut by plantation
 Ensure that harvesting plans are followed
 Ensure effective Budget Management and monitoring on both monthly and quarterly
      basis to avoid budget overruns.
 Oversee and monitor all licenses performance and general revenue collection to ensure
      all revenue targets are met.
 Preparation and submission of monthly and quarterly activity reports including reports of
all delegated procurements / disposals carried out.
Minimum Qualifications, experience and skills:
Honours degree in Science, Forestry or Environmental management.
Five (5) years in forestry work.

Sector Manager Job Vacancy at National Forestry Authority (NFA)


Job Title:             SECTOR MANAGER (3 Positions)
Reports to:                    Range Manager/Plantation Manager
Duty Station:             Transferable
Salary Scale:                  NFA 5
Terms of Employment : 3 years contract (Renewable)
Job Summary: Overseeing all activities within the sector.

Responsibilities and tasks:
Designing & supervising of forest operation in the sector.
Prepare both annual & quarterly work plans for the sector.
Supervise field operations and account for funds.
Protect CFRs & resources accordingly.
Supervise & monitor all licensed activities in the sector.
Liaise with NGO's, Local communities & all stake holders in the implementation of FMP.
Preparation of reports as required by the Authority.10
Develop & implement fire plans with in the sector.
Collect local revenue in accordance with procedures.
Monitor and keep security of NFA property & infrastructure.
Any other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, experience and skills:
A honours degree in forestry from a recognised training Institution.
At least four years experience in forestry work.
Training in management will be an added advantage.
