Legal Officer Jobs at National Forestry Authority


Job Title:       LEGAL OFFICER(1 position)
Reports to:        Legal Manager
Location:   Headquarters Kampala
Salary Scale:      NFA 4
Terms of Employment: 3 years contract (Renewable)
Job Summary: The legal officer performs tasks related to the provision of legal advisory services to the NFA.
Also, the job involves legal sensitization for staff, local communities and NFA stakeholders.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Act as a liaison for the Authority with relevant judicial institutions.
Participate in representation of NFA in Courts of Law.
Participate in preparing, Administering and Managing Legal affairs budgets and reports.
Assess legal sensitization/training needs for NFA stakeholders.
Participate in design and implementation of sensitization programmes of the local communities, NFA
field staff and the general public on the forestry law and the role of the National Forestry Authority.
Participate in drafting and negotiation of NFA Contracts.
Carryout research on legal matters.
Periodic reporting.
Carrying out any other activities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications, experience and skills.
Minimum Bachelors Degree in Law, Diploma in Legal Practice.
A minimum of three years experience practicing law in a reputable Firm or in a similar position in a
reputable organization.
Excellent ability to network with relevant judicial institutions and design and implement sensitization
workshops for NFA staff and general public.
Must be an enrolled advocate with a valid/ current practicing certificate.
POSITION: LEGAL CLERK (1 Position)
Reports to:  Legal Officer
Duty station: Headquarters Kampala
Salary Scale:   NFA 6
Terms of Employment: 3 years contract (Renewable)
Job Summary: Provide clerical work to the legal department.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Effecting service of court process within the law and other necessary documents as may be requested.
Make follow ups of documents issued by courts of law.
Preparing and deponing of documents falling within this domain such as affidavits of service and others.
Getting documents commissioned and witnessed.
Proper articulation of the law on service of process.
Fixing of cases for hearing.
Payment of stamp duty and other statutory fees or charge.4
Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications, experience and skills.
The successful candidate must have a diploma in law.
Must have three (3) years experience working in a commercially business oriented environment or
within a busy law firm.
Must be computer literate.
Have a valid process server’s certificate.
