About this Job:
We are retained by Uganda Investment Authority, (UIA) to identify a competent Ugandan to fill the post of Executive Director based at its headquarters in Kampala.
‘•UIA was setup under the Investment Code’1991 Cap 92, Revised Edition 2000 as a statutory agency mandated to initiate and support measures that enhance investment in Uganda; and to advise
Government on appropriate policies conducive for investment promotion and growth.
The vision of UIA is to make Uganda the leading investment destination. Its’ mission is to make a significant and measurable contribution to Uganda’s economic development by stimulating local and foreign investors, promoting exports and creating sustainable employment in all regions of Uganda. The strategic objectives of UIA are: to attract value adding investment that brings technology, skills and jobs to Uganda, provide serviced sites, buildings and competitive infrastructure to meet the needs of growing Ugandan-based businesses; and to stimulate and lead key stakeholders in creating a competitive business environment
Our client is looking for a competent person to lead its strategic programs. The post is tenable for a renewable period of four years.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the overall leadership, development, coordination, promotion and management of UIA programs; and for providing
technical support to the Board.
Key results areas are:
* Support the Board in the development and implementation of policies for the effective
management of investment in the country.
• Spearhead strategic planning processes and ensure a strategic focus towards the attainment
°f the organization’s mandate and objectives; and to advise the Board and GoU on appropriate
strategic agenda
* Ensure effective co-ordination of planning and implementation of the organization’s programs
and activities in relation to its strategic objectives and plans.
* Spearhead the mobilization of the necessary resources for the organization’s programs and
activities and ensure their effective utilization
* Manage relations with funding and technical partners, and maintain good working relation with
them and other government departments and related organizations and institutions
° Carry out the day-to-day management of UlA including the recruitment, supervision and support
of the organization’s staff ‘
° Raise UlA’s profile and visibility for the creation of a positive and vibrant investment and
business environments.
Requirement:
° Masters Degree in Business Administration/Public-Administration and Management or the
equivalent from a recognized institution
° Postgraduate training in any of the following disciplines: Financial Management, Human
Resource Management, Public Administration, General Management and/or Project Planning and Management ° Good computer skills ° Knowledge of the Government of Uganda Procurement Regulations and Practices, Donor and
Go U Financial Accounting Procedures
* At least 12 years hands-on experience managing organizations at top management level.
* Proven track record of leadership and management at senior level with responsibility of managing professional staff for not less than 7 years
* Managing and working in multi-sector contexts “ Excellent team leadership skills
* Well developed writing and oral communication skills.
* Private sector experience at senior level in business, human resource or project operations
* Experience in client oriented operations in the private sector service business
