10 STERLISATION NURSES
• Will be required to oversee the sterilization of surgical instruments ‘and to provide quality nursing care to MMC clients
Ensure regular and consistent availability of sterilized surgical kits as required.

Key Responsibilities:
• Over see the sterilization of all surgical instruments
• Collect, clean, disinfect, pack and sterilize surgical instruments.
• Ensure that sterilization of surgical Instruments is done in accordance with agreed policies and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain records and inventory according to standard ethical requirements ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times

• Completion of relevant Nurses Training from a recognized education institution
• Minimum of two years work experience in a clinical and theatre setting

9. NURSES (20)

Will be required to assist the surgical teams during safe MMC procedures and to provide quality nursing care .He/ she must treat each client with dignity and respect.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist surgical teams during MMC procedures.
• Provide nursing care to clients attending the clinics
• Assess clinical patient problems
• Cleaning, disinfecting and packing surgical instruments
• Treat each client with dignity, respect and understanding in accordance with IDI’s philosophy
• Maintain nursing records as required cognizant of the standard ethical requirements,

• Participates as a full member of the expanded

Requirement:

The counselor will be responsible for providing the clients relevant information about SMC. He/ she will perform counseling sessions ensuring high level confidentiality without discrimination. He/ she must treat each client with dignity and respect.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provides a full range of counseling services to MMC clients
• Identify clients problems and document pertinent information
• Assist clients in formulating plans for addressing problem areas
• Refers clients for further counseling to other social support institutions as required
• Participates as a full member of the expanded AMAKA team
• Support other circumcision related activities as required

Requirement:
Educational Requirements:
• A diploma or degree in a health related field
• Completion of a recognized course in a counseling with a specialty in counseling services for persons living with HIV/AIDS
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in a clinical setting

The Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non¬government, non- profit HIV research program that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement of Military Medicine Inc.’of USA (HJF).The primary purpose of MUWRP is to develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate communicable disease threats of public health importance to Uganda. Activities include; vaccine development and building of vaccine testing capability in Uganda, conducting of epidemiological and basic research and provision of HIV Treatment, care and support and surveillance of influenza and other emerging infections. The Project is looking for suitable candidates to fill the positions below:

POSITION TITLE: Laboratory Technologists, 2 positions
LOCATION: MUWRP Laboratory, located at Makerere University Medical School

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Proficiently perform HIV serology/viral load, Hep B and C assays and syphilis RPR and TPPA assays and APTIMA as per the SOPs.
2. Proficiently conduct Manual Hematology and white blood cell count as established by the SOPs for each Assay.
3. Learn and become proficient in new assays and technologies brought in the lab.
5. Maintain laboratory equipment, including but not limited to service and repair as established by SOPs and QA/QC guidelines.
6. Maintain lab databases and keep up with current software applications for specific departments.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirement:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE:
~ 1. Bachelors degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology,
2. Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any related science laboratory field.
3. Diploma in medical laboratory technology, knowledge and practice in Hematology will be an added advantage.
4. At least 2 years working experience in a medical/research laboratory preferably CAP accredited.

PHYSICAL ABILITY: Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally or other means deemed appropriate. The incumbent should have ability to travel to and from work and the Project’s collaborative sites in Kayunga, Entebbe and any other if necessary. The incumbent will from time to time be required to lift some lab supplies to and from the lab to the required destination as he/she may be directed by his/her superiors. The incumbent is also expected to able to sit for extended periods of time.

JOB TITLE: Intern for Commercial Pilot of Low-Cost Rainwater Storage Product

SUMMARY: The Intern needs to have a diverse skill set that demonstrates creativity, operational management and ability to train. The intern will work closely with the RI field staff and the clients using the flexible rainwater storage product. The intern will oversee the final assembly of the product in Uganda and develop a quality control system. In addition the intern will improve the ease of installation of the rainwater bag and will improve upon the training program for installers to rapidly increase the number of installer in Uganda. He/ She will work closely with the RI Technical Director to develop improved installation methods and to make the product more user-friendly. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Project Manager to ensure that supply chain for the product is maintained.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Support:

• Provide oversight and supervise training for workers that are assembling the final product in Uganda • Improve the training program for installers of the rainwater bag in order to increase the installation capacity in Uganda.
• Provide support to the marketing team with ideas and • Provide follow-up in the field for the early adopters to identify potential design and performance issues and to recommend solutions to the RI Technical Staff; • Provide inputs to improve the user friendliness of the product and to reduce installation and production costs.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduate engineer or business major with a combination of education and experience in product assembly, construction, and product promotion. • Experience in product assembly a plus. • Experience as a trainer important, since much of the work will involve training of local staff and installers. • Marketing and promotion experience also desired. • Experience living and working in a developing country context. • Strong motivation to take on the challenges involved in developing products for the households at the bottom of the pyramid. • Fluency in English. Local language skills a plus.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Assists in all aspects of planning and implementing logistical and administrative support for DOD activities in Uganda. Executes financial tracking and processing of various interagency bills. Assigned chauffeur duties from the OSC and must be safety and security conscious at all times. Assisting in coordinating movements of VIP with DOD security teams, host nation military security personnel and police. Assigned duties as Assistant DOD Aircraft Ground Technician.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1.  Education required: Completion of Secondary School (both ‘O’ and ‘A’) Level is required.
2.   Work Experience required:  Two years of chauffeur experience is required.  One-year experience in assisting and expediting travelers and aircraft through Entebbe airport is required. Minor bookkeeping, computer literacy with word and excel are required.
3.  Language required:  Level III (good working knowledge in both written and spoken) English is required.
4.  Knowledge required:  Must be familiar with local traffic laws and area traffic patterns is required. Must be knowledgeable of logistical needs of small and large aircraft, refueling procedures, passenger and crew expedition procedures, and ground handling necessities. Must know locations of all major Kampala landmarks, government officers, and UPDF military installations.
5. Skills and Abilities required: Must have valid local driver’s license for light vehicles; must be responsible, self-motivated and works with little supervision.  Must be able to perform emergency road service and be able to co-ordinate for road service assistance.  Occasionally have to load and unload heavy luggage and packages. Must have connections inside airport security, Civil Aviation Authority, Entebbe Ground Handling Services, and VIP section of Entebbe Airport.

SELECTION PROCESS
When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1.  Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and visa status in determining successful candidacy.

2.  Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3.  Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.

4.   Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.

5.   Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.

DEFINITIONS

1.  Eligible Family Member (EFM):  An individual related to a US Government employee in one of the following ways:
• Spouse or same-sex domestic partner (as defined in 3 FAM 1610);
• Child, who is unmarried and under 21 years of age or, regardless of age, is incapable of self-support.  The term shall include, in addition to natural offspring, stepchildren and adopted children and those under legal guardianship of the employee or the spouse when such children are expected to be under such legal guardianship until they reach 21 years of age and when dependent upon and normally residing with the guardian;
• Parent (including stepparents and legally adoptive parents) of the employee or of the spouse, when such parent is at least 51 percent dependent on the employee for support;
• Sister or brother (including stepsisters and stepbrothers, or adoptive sisters or brothers) of the employee, or of the spouse, when such sibling is at least 51 percent dependent on the employee for support, unmarried, and under 21 years of age, or regardless of age, incapable of self-support.

2.  US Citizen Eligible Family Member (USEFM):  For purposes of receiving a preference in hiring for a qualified position, an EFM who meets the following criteria:
• US Citizen; and,
• EFM (see above) at least 18 years old; and,
• Listed on the travel orders of a direct-hire Foreign, Civil, or uniformed service member assigned to or stationed abroad with a USG agency that is under COM authority, or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan; and either:

1. Resides at the sponsoring employee’s or uniformed service member’s post of assignment abroad or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan; or
2. Resides at an Involuntary Separate Maintenance Allowance (ISMA) location authorized under 3 FAM 3232.2.
3.  Appointment Eligible Family Member (AEFM):  EFM (see above) eligible for a Family Member Appointment for purposes of Mission employment:
• Is a U.S. citizen; and
• Spouse or same-sex domestic partner (as defined in 3 FAM 1610) or a child of the sponsoring employee who is unmarried and at least 18 years old; and
• Is listed on the travel orders or approved Form OF-126, Foreign Service Residence and Dependency Report, of a sponsoring employee, i.e., a direct-hire Foreign Service, Civil Service, or uniformed service member who is permanently assigned to or stationed abroad at a U.S. mission, or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), and who is under chief of mission authority; and
• Is residing at the sponsoring employee’s post of assignment abroad or, as appropriate, office of the American Institute in Taiwan.
• Does not receive a Foreign Service or Civil Service annuity
4.  Member of Household (MOH):  An individual who accompanies a  direct-hire Foreign, Civil, or uniformed service member permanently assigned or stationed at a U.S. Foreign Service post or establishment abroad, or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan.  An MOH is:
• Not an EFM; and,
• Not on the travel orders of the sponsoring employee; and,
• Has been officially declared by the sponsoring USG employee to the COM as part of his/her household.

A MOH is under COM authority and may include a parent, unmarried partner, other relative or adult child who falls outside the Department’s current legal and statutory definition of family member.  A MOH does not have to be a US Citizen.
4. Not Ordinarily Resident (NOR) – An individual who:
• Is not a citizen of the host country; and,
• Does not ordinarily reside (OR, see below) in the host country; and,
• Is not subject to host country employment and tax laws; and,
• Has a US Social Security Number (SSN).

NOR employees are compensated under a GS or FS salary schedule, not under the LCP.
5. Ordinarily Resident (OR) – A Foreign National or US citizen who:
• Is locally resident; and,
• Has legal, permanent resident status within the host country; and,
• Is subject to host country employment and tax laws.

EFMs without US Social Security Numbers are also OR.  All OR employees, including US citizens, are compensated in accordance with the Local Compensation Plan (LCP).
