Patient Care:

Dispenser Job Vacancy at Hospice Africa in Uganda


Title: Dispenser (1 post)

Location: Mbarara

JOB PURPOSE:

Professionally maintain the pharmacy and implement MOH/NDA policies and regulations. Training the nurses and other health professionals in the team in the use and dispensing of drugs, and training other health professionals on placement and on course

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

The Pharmacy

Has full control of the pharmacy and the dispensing of medicines and to the home care on a day to day basis.
Supervises other members of the health care team in dispensing medications.
Help in procurement of the cost effective medication as per essential palliative care drug list.
Ensures that there is always sufficient stock of each drug and any other supplies necessary in the pharmacy
Maintains a stock card system to account for usage of drugs and supply for daily dispensed drug records
Accounts for drugs used on a monthly basis before ordering new stock to a as required by periodically.

Dispensing

Dispenses drugs to patients
Gives detailed explanations to patients on how to take drugs correctly using the patient medicine chart.



Record keeping

Updates the register for class A drugs on a daily basis
Files all prescription for class A drugs according to the formulation indicated thereon
Ensures that authorized prescribers of class A sign the prescription
Ensures that the doctors, nurses, and caretakers sign for class A drugs received by them to give to a particular patient
Ensures that class A drugs are kept in a manner acceptable to NDA and the Ugandan and International law.

Stock check

Ensures that all Class A drugs recorded are updated daily and any discrepancies e.g expired, spirage are entered into the register and signed
Checks nurse’s medical bags on a regular basis

Storage

Ensures safe storage of stock of class A drugs
Ensures that all medications are put away into locked cupboards when the dispenser or nurses dispensing are not in the pharmacy.

Training

Teaches on courses and is prepared to teach on a day to day basis, team members and professionals attached to Hospice training.
Constantly disseminates knowledge regarding the dispensing of drugs to the terminally ill, to other health professionals, volunteers and family members.
Assists in building up a reservoir of resource persons, materials and audiovisual aids for training in the pharmacology of drugs used in palliative care.
Ensures that the library is kept up to date with relevant information on drugs.

Job Summary:

To ensure all financial processes are functioning effectively and efficiently, monitor financial results to detect risks and address them. H/She will plan, execute and evaluate all activities of financial management of AAH-I Uganda Country Programme. The holder will be responsible for creating, reviewing, updating and enforcing compliance of the Programme’s financial policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities
Lead in the country budgeting process and provide technical advice to support proposal writing
Supervise, train and evaluate country accounting staff
Periodically review and implement financial policies to mitigate against any financial risks
Ensure all functions and programs/projects under charge are performed within budgetary parameters, to include performing costs control activities, monitoring revenues and expenditures and ensuring sound fiscal control.
Ensure accuracy of work generated in the country accounts office in relation to billing, payroll processing, accounts payable, drafting checks and accounts receivable.
Maintain and reconcile bank accounts for all funds with assistant from accounting support personnel.
Plan, manage, coordinate and implement the year end/project end closing processes and procedures for the assigned accounting records, and provide information to auditors.
Prepare annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly cash flow forecasts, reviewing them on a monthly and weekly basis based on cash status and generating weekly cash flow reports.
Ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting standards and principles, established procedures, departmental guidelines and regulatory requirements through the maintenance of proper audit trails and verification and reconciliation actions for all processed work.
Review receipts, expenditures forms, purchase orders, distributions and disbursement orders for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established regulatory standards.
Provides technical accounting support and interpretation to management and employees.

Job Summary:
Carry out consultations in OPD and Inpatients services, timely referrals, responsible for supervision of health services in the health facility, give on job training and support supervision to subordinates in the facility, ensure the community participate and get involved in community based health care activities, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate Primary Health Care delivery in the health facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide 24 hour on-call services to the health facility and organize/recommend patients for referral

Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on curative and preventive health services.
Collect health information from the health facilities and community health services, compile, analyse, utilize and give feedback to relevant stakeholders.

Job summary: To provide coordination in the implementation of GBV interventions made by key actors in the Refugee Protection Network in line with AAH-I

Strategic objectives:

Establish and maintain an up-to-date database of reported SGBV cases within the refugee community;
Monitor all SGBV related issues and closely co-ordinate with key actors to ensure on-going, accurate SGBV data collection and entry;
Progressively generate appropriate periodic reports and monitor trends related to SGBV;
Document innovation and good practices in the prevention of and response to SGBV;

Liaise with and promote relevant entities to meet their responsibilities with regard to the prevention and response to SGBV against refugees in observance of universally recognized standards;
Plan and oversee the delivery of the counselling services to GBV survivors, in a non-discriminatory manner.
Establish follow up plans to ensure GBV survivors are fully supported to recovery
Attend relevant professional and programmatic meetings in line with provision of GBV and counselling services.
Conduct home visits to referred families where relevant.
Arrange regular monitoring sessions with volunteers
Interview separated children, unaccompanied minors and other children-at-risk for the purpose of preparing Best Interest Assessment (BIA) reports;
Assist in the organization and facilitation of capacity building activities e.g. workshops, trainings or information dissemination, for community based social and/or extension workers;
In coordination with the supervisor, liaise with and foster a collaborative networking relationship with other stakeholders to facilitate social assistance to AAH-I refugee clients;

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’sdegree in social sciences, community psychology, social work, sociology, counselling and strong database skills. Good knowledge of SGBV issues and human rights doctrine.
At least twoyears’ work experience in similar or higher position. Experience in database management and work in the field of refugee protection and assistance a distinct advantage.


Skills and competencies:

Computer literacy a must - knowledge of MS Office required; Data handling skills and previous exposure to database management essential;
