Tourism Marketing Consultancy Opportunity at AWF in Uganda


TOR for the Tourism Marketing  Consultancy
Based on the activities outlined in the first year work plan for the USAID/Uganda
Tourism for Biodiversity Program, AWF is seeking a proposal (technical and financial)
to support implementation of the specific activities outlined below in various national
parks in Uganda.
LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
1. Tourism Product Development: support AWF and UWA efforts in planning for
priority park related infrastructure by developing a park specific branding plan
for LMNP. This will be achieved by working with UWA’s existing branding
manual and the trail plans and information developed by USFS/UWA for the
park.
2. Marketing Campaign to Increase Tourism and Park Revenue: Building on
the inventory, mapping and assessment of the park and the surrounding
region, support AWF, UWA and tourism stakeholders to develop a marketing
plan for the park; and informational and promotional materials including focus
on the actions required to implement a domestic promotional campaign to
increase awareness about the park and its attractions. This is expected to
increase visitation to the park.
MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
1. Tourism Product Development and implementation of Top of the Falls
Development Plan: Support AWF, UWA and other partners to review and
update the ‘Top of the Falls’ development plans. Based on this review and
update, work with UWA and others as appropriate to design and support the
implementation of the first phase of the plan.
2. Information and Marketing: In collaboration with UWA/NFA and AWF,
develop informational and marketing materials about Murchison and Budongo
conservation area including written and visual content on the tourism activities
and attractions of the region.
BUDONGO FOREST RESERVE
1. Improve Tourism Infrastructure: Support AWF, NFA, JGI and other partners to
develop interpretive and marketing materials for the tourism attractions in the
forest. This will include design of interpretive and directional signage leading to and along the new trails planned in the forest as well as marketing materials
for all tourism attractions in the forest.
2. Bird Guide Training: To train guides in the focus area of Budongo Forest
Reserve on current market guiding needs
KIDEPOVALLY NATIONAL PARK
1. Improve Tourism Connectivity Between Kampala, MFNP and KVNP : To
improve the connectivity between Kampala, MFNP and KVNP with the goal to
increase visitation to both these parks but specifically to KVNP. Support AWF
and work with tourism stakeholders to build on the information in the USAID
Northern Uganda Investment Report to develop implementation plans for the
northern tourism circuit from Kampala-Murchison/Budongo-Gulu-KitgumKampala. The investment plan will identify tourism opportunities that the
project can support as well as those that other organizations or the
government might be able to support.
2. Develop Tourism Mini-Guide for Northern Uganda Route to Kidepo:
Support AWF to conduct a survey of the tourism private sector to analyze the
interest, issues, challenges and opportunities for tourism along the northern
circuit as well as in the parks (MFNP and KVNP). Based on information from the
survey and the investment trip, develop a mini-guide and sample itineraries of
Uganda’s northern circuit, with information about the market ready tourism
activities in the parks as well as along the routes to the parks.
3. Improve Tourism in KVNP: In collaboration with UWA, USFS and in
consultation with tourism, government and community stakeholders, Support
AWF to develop a tourism development plan for the park. The plan will include
components such as signage to and within the park, new or improved trails,
campsites and accommodations, and information/interpretation for the park.
4. Apoka Village Redevelopment Plan: Provide tourism technical support to
AWF and UWA in development of detailed plans, designs and costs for the
redevelopment of Apoka Village in KVNP.
KALINZU FOREST RESERVE
1. Staff Capacity Building in Guiding & Interpretation: Support AWF work with
NFA and JGI, with technical interpretation and guide trainings to supplement
ecological and other trainings through JGI. The interpretation and guide
training will consist of development and training-of-trainers for NFA staff (or
others as appropriate) followed by implementation of a week-long training
program in and around the forest. This will include development of a tourism
product and marketing materials, around the new Chimp group. CROSSCUTTINGNATIONAL ACTIVITIES
1. Improve NFA Capacity to Effectively Manage Tourism and Conservation: In
collaboration with AWF project staff and JGI, work with NFA staff at the
national and field level to develop an NFA Tourism Master Plan. This will
include a review of existing procedures, activities and opportunities within NFA
and their vision for tourism in the organization.
2. Tourism Promotion and Development for Protected Areas – UWA
Marketing Plan and Campaign: In collaboration with AWF project staff,
review existing UWA tourism marketing plans and survey tourism stakeholders
to develop activities that will support marketing of Uganda’s parks in
collaboration with UWA’s Tourism Department. Based on the plan, implement
an ‘UWA Tourism Marketing Campaign Program’ in collaboration with UWA
Tourism Department marketing staff and with private sector tourism
stakeholders to help promote the parks of Uganda. The marketing campaign
will be established with a comprehensive online monitoring system to track
success and impact of the campaign.
3. Tourism Promotion and Development for Protected Areas – Online
Interactive Map and Mobile Application: To enhance UWA’s website and
interaction with its visitors, support AWF work with UWA and the project to
develop an online interactive map and mobile application. The online
interactive map will integrate into the existing UWA website and contain points
of interest, tourism attractions, local stories and other information about
traveling within UWA’s National Parks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Consistently achieve monthly, quarterly, annual sales objectives through securing signed tenant licenses, contract renewals and additional business within in order to meet and exceed targets as agreed with the Director of Sales & Marketing
Project manage and document all technical projects carried out with clients
Ensure client’s support issues are resolved in a fast and professional manner with operations teams and comply to agreed Service Level Agreements

RENOVATION OF KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARKCHIEF WARDEN’S HOUSE
The USAID/Uganda Tourism for Biodiversity Program has sought and received approval from Uganda
Wildlife Authority (UWA) to use the former Chief Warden’s house at Apoka within Kidepo Valley
National Park for office and accommodation for its staff based there. The house will revert to UWA for
use in tourism after the life of the program. Therefore USAID/Uganda Tourism for Biodiversity Program
is seeking for a qualified firm to undertake the renovationwork which will include the following:
• Replace facial board, ceiling, paint roof
• Repaint the whole house
• Repair all floors and where appropriate replace apron
• Replace broken doors and windows (including panes and mosquito nets)
• Refit the kitchen including appropriate work top and shelves
• Provide for rainwater harvesting including a water pump to raise water into a 1000 litre tank
on an appropriate stand
• Provide plumbing works including septic tank,soak pit and piping.
• Supply and fix solar power adequate to provide light and run at least 2 computers and a laser
printer.
• Any other additional works not listed above that the firm may find necessary but only on
approval from USAID/Uganda Tourism for Biodiversity Program.
