“The American Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Air-Conditioning Technician.”

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

As working foreman directing two full journeyman mechanics, two multi trade technicians and one trades’ helper engaged in performing maintenance and repair works on structures and associated equipment in office buildings, residential quarters, and other government owned or leased properties.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1.  Education required:  Completion of secondary school (both ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level) and vocational training or apprenticeship from a recognized institution producing journeyman level technicians is required.

2.  Work Experience: Two years of journeyman technician/mechanic experience in relevant trade and one year of working foreman experience is required.

3.   Language Requirement: Level II (Limited knowledge) in spoken and written English ability is required.

4.   Knowledge:  Full journeyman refrigeration air-conditioning knowledge of established practices and procedures on air-conditioning electrical trade is required.

5.  Skills:  Basic knowledge of the construction industry and use of the hand and power tools and professionally be able to determine extent of damage or problem with the experience it takes to make necessary recommendations for equipment repair or replacement.  Must hold a valid Ugandan driver’s license.

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

After an initial application screening, applicants will be invited to a testing process that may include a written examination and oral interviews.  The selected candidate must pass pre-employment medical and security investigations before beginning work.  The initial appointment period is one year, subject to renewal.

Normally, candidates for employment are hired at the first step of the designated pay grade.  In some instances, candidates may be hired at a higher step when exceptional qualifications or previous governmental service and pay level so warrant.  The Human Resources Officer will make the decision with the concurrence of the employing section.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

US Citizen; and,

Listed on the travel orders of a direct-hire Foreign, Civil, or uniformed service member assigned to or stationed abroad with a USG agency that is under COM authority, or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan; and either:
Resides at the sponsoring employee’s or uniformed service member’s post of assignment abroad or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan; or
Resides at an Involuntary Separate Maintenance Allowance (ISMA) location authorized under 3 FAM 3232.2.
3.  Appointment Eligible Family Member (AEFM):  EFM (see above) eligible for a Family Member Appointment for purposes of Mission employment:

Is a U.S. citizen; and
Spouse or same-sex domestic partner (as defined in 3 FAM 1610) or a child of the sponsoring employee who is unmarried and at least 18 years old; and
Is listed on the travel orders or approved Form OF-126, Foreign Service Residence and Dependency Report, of a sponsoring employee, i.e., a direct-hire Foreign Service, Civil Service, or uniformed service member who is permanently assigned to or stationed abroad at a U.S. mission, or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), and who is under chief of mission authority; and

4.  Member of Household (MOH):  An individual who accompanies a  direct-hire Foreign, Civil, or uniformed service member permanently assigned or stationed at a U.S. Foreign Service post or establishment abroad, or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan.  An MOH is:

Not an EFM; and,
Not on the travel orders of the sponsoring employee; and,
Has been officially declared by the sponsoring USG employee to the COM as part of his/her household.
A MOH is under COM authority and may include a parent, unmarried partner, other relative or adult child who falls outside the Department’s current legal and statutory definition of family member.  A MOH does not have to be a US Citizen.

4. Not Ordinarily Resident (NOR) – An individual who:

Is not a citizen of the host country; and,
Does not ordinarily reside (OR, see below) in the host country; and,
Is not subject to host country employment and tax laws; and,
Has a US Social Security Number (SSN).
NOR employees are compensated under a GS or FS salary schedule, not under the LCP.

5. Ordinarily Resident (OR) – A Foreign National or US citizen who:

Is locally resident; and,
Has legal, permanent resident status within the host country; and,
Is subject to host country employment and tax laws.


EFMs without US Social Security Numbers are also OR.  All OR employees, including US citizens, are compensated in accordance with the Local Compensation Plan (LCP).

Kampala Club Ltd, established in 1911, as a Members only Club, is the largest recreation club in the country offering a variety of sports and recreational facilities. The Club, currently with a membership of over 600 members, is seeking to recruit a qualified individual for the position below:

JOB TITLE: GENERAL MANAGER

Reports to: Hon Club Secretary with a dotted line to the Executive Council

Job Summary: The job holder is responsible for the day- to-day aspects of the Club including all her activities and the relationships between the Club and the Executive Council, the members, guests, community, government and industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Implement general policies established by the Executive Council and General Annual Meetings, and direct their administration and execution;
Consistently ensure that the Club is operated in accordance with all applicable laws;
Oversee the care and maintenance of all the Club’s physical assets and facilities;
Coordinate the marketing and membership relations programmes to promote the Club’s services and facilities to present and potential members;
Ensure the highest standards for food, beverages, sports and recreation, entertainment and other Club services in terms of quality, quantity and timely delivery;
Analyze and review financial statements, manage cash flow and establish controls to safe guard the Club funds;
Manage the performance of all sectional heads and work with them to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all employees.
Attend all meetings of the Club’s Executive Council and other committees and take minutes (of the Committees);
Prepare reports and other support material for the Executive Council; and.
Attend to any other duty as assigned by the Supervisor.
Experience and Qualitications:

A Degree in either Institutional Management or Hotel Management from a recognized institution;
Must have at least three (3) years’ management experience in a medium to high class hotel or members club;
Must have interests in sporting activities in addition to being conversant in food production, service and beverage knowledge;
Must demonstrate good communication skills both oral and written;
Demonstrable experience in the Human Resource function with strong planning, organising, leadership and co-ordination skills;
Should be able to execute with minimum supervision; and
Must have hands on experience in computers (especially MSWord and Excel)
