Job Title: Professional Development Specialist (PDS)

Job Description

Professional Development Specialist (PDS) will translate the vision of the improved curriculum into more effective and innovative teacher training in both pre- and in-service teacher training institutions, as well as support the Ministry of Education (MOE) to integrate these new practices into the policy and financial framework.

S/he will work with the COP and Senior Management team in very close cooperation with education officials at the central and local governments and relevant pre- and in-service institutions to accomplish this task.

The PDS will provide support to the MOE and the project staff in joint efforts to improve pre- and in-service teacher training in the early grades, training of teachers in the use of active learning methods, reinforcing teachers’ understanding and use of English and Mother Tongue as languages of instruction, and strengthening the capacity of TTCs and the TSC to design and deliver pre-service and in-service teacher education activities.

Qualifications:

Masters degree in education with 6 years or relevant experience;
Experience in developing teacher training curricula;
Significant experience in education development for reading and/or literacy in early grades;
Track record of performance excellence meeting targets and objectives;
Strong relationship with government counterparts in order to reach national scale with improved reading performance;
Experience in providing technical assistance, planning and coordinating program field work; Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred.

Ideal profile:
- At least 3years work experience in a recognized Micro Finance Institution or Commercial Bank.

Deputy Chief of Party Job Vacancy in Uganda at RTI International


Job Title: Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP)

Job Description

Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will provide will play an integral role in overseeing programmatic activities and providing managerial supervision for all aspects of the program.

S/he will provide guidance and support to technical staff to implement program components, including support for early grade reading and mathematics instruction, teacher training, district support, and social advocacy initiatives.

The DCOP will interface with both USAID and other counterparts regarding the overall direction of the project in the absence of the COP.

S/he will oversee general office operations, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, communications, and information technology support.

Provide oversight to budgets, grants, operational plans, reporting, and procedural and financial compliance.

The DCOP will establish and maintain cooperative relationships with key stakeholders, including government counterparts.

S/he will be accountable for the timely submission of all required contractual deliverables and expected results.

Qualifications:

Master’s or higher degree education, business administration, or  in a related field;
12 years of experience in education program implementation, early grade learning, teacher professional development and/or district and school management support programs;
Demonstrated experience supporting Ministries of Education to improve their education systems, working in the education or human capacity building sector for education management and service delivery;
Experience as a senior-level manager of similar education programs;
Prior experience and familiarity with donor project management policies, procedures and reporting requirements, particularly USAID.

Job Description

IT Specialist will Support Windows PCs and Windows Servers and maintain network infrastructure including ISP, router, Ethernet switch, PABX and VoIP.

S/he will set up, maintain, and support the IT infrastructure for additional project offices as they are established.

S/he will assist with technical specifications, budget, and forecast the IT requirements for the offices and coordinate the procurement for the same.

The IT Specialist will ensure compliance with RTI Information Security policies and procedures and supervise the performance of any local IT firms or staff hired to support the project offices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field with 6 years experience supporting and troubleshooting Windows PCs, servers, printers and networks of similar work environment;

Driver Job Vacancy at RTI International


Job Title: Driver (4 positions available)

Job Description



Driver (4 positions) will drive the project vehicles with strict adherence to local traffic laws and in accordance to project rules and regulations pertaining to vehicles.

S/he will transport project staff and materials in Kampala and the regions and maintain the vehicle in a satisfactory condition, including weekly cleaning of the interior and exterior and periodic (quarterly) cleaning of the motor and chassis.

S/he will carry out project errands as required and ensure that the vehicle usage log is updated on a daily basis.

Qualifications:

Secondary schooling desirable with 1 year of relevant experience;

Valid driver’s license in good standing;

Knowledge of car mechanics and repair;

5 years of experience in driving a vehicle; preferably for a USAID or other donor project;

Willingness to drive on missions in the interior of the country.

Preferred: Training certificate in defensive driving.
