Job Description

Monitor Publications Limited, a Nation Media Group Company is Uganda’s most influential media house, operating The Daily Monitor and Sunday Monitor newspapers, 93.3KFM, Nation Couriers and the Monitor Business Directory.
We wish to recruit a qualified and experienced professional to fill the vacancy below.

We are looking to recruit a:  SALES MANAGER- PUBLICATIONS

Reports to:  BUSINESS MANAGER- PUBLICATIONS

Job Purpose: To design, develop and implement a sales strategy that will ensure that the business achieves its revenue targets and to manage the performance of the sales team.

Main Responsibilities:

Design & implement strategies that grow the Monitor Business Directory (MBD) division, grow its customer base across all segments and that drive customer retention and revenue growth.
Design work plans that exploit the market place and guide the sales team in their day-to-day sales activities.
Regularly track the sales team’s sales / collection performance.
Mentor and coach the team and regularly carry our performance management reviews as per Monitor Publications Ltd guidelines.
Carry out regular client-list reviews and discusses with Business Executives on potential new business
Ensure sales contracts and other appropriate documentation are in place for every client, follow up and resolve any complaints, and keep the Publications Manager informed.
Maintain close liaison with relevant departments within MPL and make monthly sales and collection reports to the Publications Manager.
Coordinate activities with the Publications Manager and other managers to achieve teamwork in the department and to enhance cross-functional potential.

Qualifications & Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in a business-related course.
Post graduate qualifications in sales / marketing will be an added advantage
At least 5 years of relevant sales management experience in an FMCG industry.
Demonstrable and proven experience in meeting targets and managing people
Ability to develop and communicate a clear and effective strategy.
Computer literacy especially in PowerPoint, Word and Spreadsheets.
Strong Proposal writing abilities
Strong customer focus and business acumen
A results oriented attitude and high personal standards
Strong and demonstrable communication (oral & written) skills.
Strong and demonstrable interpersonal and coaching skills

Job Title: Programme Manager (Livelihoods)
Job Description

VSO is an international development agency that works through volunteer professionals to fight global poverty and disadvantage. VSO is seeking to fill this position in our country structure.

Position:  Programme Manager (Livelihoods)
Based in Gulu
The Programme Manager will undertake all aspects of managing our secure livelihoods programme in Uganda including:

A.    Programme Development and Delivery:  analyse and understand the relevant development context and identify relevant development to deliver desired outcomes. Manage projects through the full cycle.
B.    Programme Funding:  proactively identify funding opportunities, working with the Regional Funding Adviser and Deputy Country Director to develop concepts and proposals.
C.    Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and implement project plans and budgets, ensuring compliance with VSO and donor requirements.
D.    Monitoring and Evaluation: Lead the design and delivery of appropriate monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
E.    Partnership Development and Management: Assess, negotiate, maintain and review relevant partnerships. Build and support networks between key stakeholders.
F.    Volunteer Management and Support: work with the programme support team to induct, orient and provide on-going support to volunteers.
G.    Line Management: manage and motivate a high performing team within the performance management framework. Provide leadership as a member of the country management team.
H.     Other Duties: Deputise for the Deputy Country Director or other colleagues. Fulfil other appropriate level responsibilities as defined by the Country Director.

Qualification and Experience: -

Higher degree-holder with at least five years experience in development work two of which are at management level.
Experience in secure livelihoods is highly desirable.
Experience of education and health related activities a distinct advantage.

Finance Officer Job Vacancy at VSO Uganda


Job Title: Finance Officer

Job Description

Position: Finance Officer
Based in Gulu
The Finance Officer will be responsible for supporting the Finance Manager and the Deputy Country Director in managing the finances of the Gulu Office.

The job entails: -

A.    Budget management:
Support the Country Finance Manager in effectively managing the budget of the Gulu field office, to ensure accuracy and that the Deputy Country Director is informed of the financial position of each project.
B.    Financial Support and control:
Be responsible for financial matters in the Gulu Office, reviewing purchase requisitions, invoices and processing payments and data entry.
C.    Grants Management:
•    Support to the Finance Manager to manage the partner/donor reporting timetables for the Northern Uganda programmes and ensure reports are produced in a timely manner.  Advise partners in submitting their reports and accountabilities. Produce restricted donor reports.
•    Support the Finance Manager to produce high quality monthly management reports for the Country Director and the London based finance team, advising on any variances.
•    Report internally and externally where appropriate.

Qualification and Experience:

Degree in Accounting, finance or related degree.
Part qualified professional Accountant, with at least 3 years experience.  Knowledge of financial planning, internal controls, and payroll processing and taxation will be an added advantage.
