Tasks and Responsibilities:

Identify causes of disease in livestock, including poultry.
Isolate, characterize and study the properties of the causative agents.
Determine epidemiological factors associated with the causative agents.
Develop appropriate control measures for the identified diseases.
Carry out disease spot- on checks
Minimum Qualifications:

Tasks and Responsibilities

Undertake quality assurance and quality control in experimental design, data management and integrity as well as data analysis and interpretation.
Advise research scientists in NARO institutes and other agricultural research service providers supported by NARO in the design, planning and implementation of scientifically sound experiments.
Ensure that data generated by scientists is of scientific integrity and the  analysis tools and methods are scientifically sound
Support the scientists in the analysis of data using mathematical and statistical methods.
Create and maintain capacity within NARO in sound research methods, data analysis and interpretation and
Ensure the availability of statistical software to NARO scientists and they are upto-date with the most rigorous and robust data management and analytical tools
Support scientists in grant applications by ensuring the study designs and proposed data management and analysis methods are scientifically and statistically sound
Conduct research to improve data management and statistical methods in the organization.
Minimum Requirements:

Applicants should possess a Bachelors Degree  in Agricultural sciences or statistics plus a Masters degree in biometrics, biostatistics or epidemiology. Possession of a PhD in related filed will be an added advantage.
At least 3 years experience (for MSc) in a research setting.
Knowledge of computers, statistical and data processing software including SAS, STATA, Genestat and others
An analytical and imaginative mind
Good communication skills to work with diverse teams and Excellent report writing skills.
Publication record  in peer reviewed statistical/agricultural or natural science journals is desirable.

Collect, analyse and interpret agronomy and on-farm research trial data.
Develop and implement farmer participatory research methodologies for systems management research.
Study the effects of various cropping systems on crop yield and determine the most efficient cropping system for optimum crop production.
Identify nutrient needs of the various crops (plant nutrition) and develop corrective measures to alleviate the problems.
Develop appropriate crop and soil management technologies that are gender responsive and avoids soil resource mining but increase crop yield.
Study the effects of weeds, weed competition and nutrient mining on crop yield, diseases and insect pests.
Disseminate study results through farmer feedback workshops, training workshops and sessions, conferences, seminars, brochures, newsletters, journals, reports, media, field days and agricultural shows.
Offer training to farmers, extension personnel, university students and interested parties on pasture improvement and management.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should hold at least a Masters degree in Agronomy with at least three years working experience.  Should possess good skills in experimental   design, data collection, analysis, interpretation and report writing.  Possession of a PhD is an added advantage. Applicants with either Bachelors Degree in Agriculture or Bachelors of Science in Zoology (Upper Second) may be considered.
