HOUSING SUPPORT SERVICES SPECIALIST
This position is responsible for the strategic planning, design, monitoring, supporting implementation, and evaluation around Housing Support Services (HSS). S/he will be responsible for supporting the growth and development of HSS initiatives with Financial Service Providers (FSPs); monitoring and success of the HSS initiatives being implemented by the FSPs; and building the capacity of National Office (NO) and the FSPs with regards to all matters relating to construction and the technical aspects of housing.
Reporting: This position reports to the Housing Microfinance Project Manager – Uganda
Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
Oversee the HSS component of the project and provide guidance and advice to the NO and FSPs on Housing Support Services strategies and issues
Contribute to the development of overall HSS (housing support services), and construction design and technologies strategy with the FSPs.
Gather relevant information on housing, construction processes, Conduct suitability and feasibility of construction and shelter improvements, in target areas where projects with FSPs will be implemented.
Lead in the design of new HSS initiatives, and tools for FSPs including assessing the suitability and feasibility of construction interventions; advice to appropriateness of materials and construction processes used; and compliance with regulations, etc.)
Work with HFM Project Manager to generate a cost recovery strategy for HSS developed with FSPs.
Leads analysis and review of HSS initiatives with FSPs documenting best practices and emerging lessons. Shares the learnings and practices in appropriate forums
Raising problems around the implementation of HSS to the Housing Microfinance Project Manager and National Director/s
Research and develop innovative construction related products with the partners.
Be a resource to the NO, Area office and partners in general in the field of construction technologies and methodologies.
Train and build the capacity of FSP, consultants and NO staff on HSS methodologies, tools, and interventions as may be appropriate
Network with organizations and associations working in fields related to low-cost housing;
Participate in research, policy development and design around low-income construction and housing.
Responsible for collecting HSS related monitoring reports
Coordinates the reporting and in communicating on HSS initiatives to partners, other stakeholders and /or donors external to the NO.
As agreed with his/her supervisor, participates in HSS regional COPs (communities of practice), and other related task-teams.
Requirement:
Minimum Bachelor's or similar Degree in housing or construction related field (such as Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, Urban Planning, and Construction Project Management). A minimum of 5 years' experience in the construction/housing industry.

Summary of position

5 years progressively relevant experience in the design and implementation of livelihood projects with NGO;
Technical expertise in financial inclusion and access to financial services for the poor
Solid skills in research and analysis, project reporting and budget management are required • Field experience in sustainable rural livelihood projects using gender analysis community-based approach and methodology plus familiarity with focused PRA/PLA/ SAA techniques
Excellent teamwork, communication, individual organizational, powerful analytical skills and commitment plus ability to display gender sensitivity and adaptability.

In the framework of the Project “Improving the Training of BTVET Technical Teachers, Instructors & Health Tutors, and Secondary Teachers in Uganda – UGA 09 020 11″

Under the guidance & supervision of the Project Coordination Team, the Project Assistant will be responsible for:
Coordination Tasks:
Assist the PCT in coordinating, managing, administering, planning, budgeting, implementing, monitoring and evaluating ail project activities. Facilitate the organisation, smooth conduct and follow-up of meetings, trainings, workshops and other internal & external events. Assist the PCT in the preparation of reports, meeting agendas & minutes, presentations and any other documents for the Steering Committees and any other meeting and events.
Coordinate land/air trips schedules as requested for trainings and other events
Administrative Tasks:
Ensure the timely purchasing and distribution of materials, equipment, stationary, photocopies and supplies to be provided for trainings and other Project events 0n a weekly basis ensure the back-up of all electronic Project documents.
Secretarial Tasks:
Centralise internal and external communications. Liaise with national/regional authorities and organizations, and with project stakeholders. Keep the Project activities calendar updated. Ensure the timely dispatching, back-up and filing of the incoming/outgoing correspondence. Keep all project documents classified (computer and paper files) as instructed by the PTC.
Requirement:
A Master degree in Development Studies (or in another relevant field).
At least 3 years of experience in development projects (preferably in the education sector).
Verbal and written proficiency in English.
Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
Willingness to work overtime and ability to bear stress.

HEAD OF NEWS
The overall responsibility for this position is the management of the entire news department’s operations, staff and other resources, in order to ensure effective delivery of the station’s news products.

Key Responsibilities

Effectively manage and supervise on day-to-day newsroom operations
Coach, mentor and guide the news team, to ensure high standards of performance in all relevant aspects of journalism.
Cultivate and maintain effective contact with prominent political, business, social, education, diplomatic and religious personalities and institutions throughout Uganda (and elsewhere as necessary) to support the news function, portray a high image of the company as a news organization and also keep abreast of any developments which could have a bearing on editorial aspects of news broadcasts in Uganda.
You will work closely with a team of news producers/editors and will hold regular and/or ad hoc (as necessary), briefing meetings with them so as to brief on any developments which could have a bearing on news gathering and editing of the company’s news outlets.
Participate in Nation Media Group editorial product development and quality control committees to ensure appropriate development of editorial content and to ensure that factual and any other errors are eliminated from the company’s news and current affairs programmes.
In undertaking your role and duties, you will report directly to the General Manager, as well as maintain close contact and reference with the Group’s Editorial Director
Requirement:
Postgraduate university qualifications in Journalism.
A relevant basic University degree.
Proficiency and fluency in the English language.
Deep understanding of news content planning and editorial strategies; and a strong ability to execute plans and strategies through others and on your own.
Strong passion for news and the ability to critically analyze news events.
Ability to work long and odd hours under tight deadlines, to think fast and give effective directions in a fast paced media environment.
Have a keen eye for detail, thoroughness and meticulous execution.
At least 7 years experience in a real time news environment.
Prior team leadership experience and strong ability to build and maintain consensus.
