Job Title: CHILDHOOD BLINDNESS AND LOW VISION COORDINATOR(1)

Job Description

Job Purpose:  

The childhood blindness and low vision coordinator will coordinate a project which aims at extending Child Eye Health Services across the Eastern Region in Uganda. This project is a partnership between the BEH and KCCO Tanzania /Swiss Lions. The officer will report to the director BEH and will work under the day –to-day supervision of the Pediatric Ophthalmologist at BEH.

A successful candidate will work on 3-year contract and it is renewable subject to funding.

Key functions:

Prepare a detailed work plan for the Child Eye Health Project
Support the provision of a high quality and compressive service for all children attending BEH pediatric eye care clinic.
Provide direct services to children and their care takers attending the eye clinic at BEH including collection of contract data and pre and post service counseling.
Establishing ties with district focal persons and other stakeholders within the region to reduce delays in presentation and follow-up of children.
Intensive and proactive work on patient follow-up, including developing networks of support for rehabilitation services for children across the region
Ensure that the patient tracking system for referral and follow-ups is established and is actively utilized.
Implement and refine data management system (data collection, entry and analysis)
-monitor and report on childhood cataract (CCSR) For the Region /Country) and low vision services provided.

Ensure well organized systems for documentation of resources relating to the project.  
Develop comprehensive activity reports of the project in accordance with deadlines
Assist with training of teachers in schools for the blind and annexes on the importance of early identification as well as the need for providing low vision services for children who can benefit.
Assist with the training and supervision of key informants and others involved in case detection and referral
Document best practices and prepare case studies
Carry out additional activities assigned by the BEH DIRECTOR and the pediatric ophthalmologist at BEH.
Qualifications and Experience:

Diploma or Degree Social Work and Social Administration (SWASA) or Community Psychology or Education or Public Health or Community Education or A Health Related Area from A Recognized Tertiary Institution.

Experience in Project Planning and Management, Counseling, Computer Based Data Processing and Management and Working Directly With Children Will Be an Added Advantage.

The Candidate Must Be Willing To Travel Extensively With In The Region.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Chief Air operations, Entebbe, Air Region, the Flight Following Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

Ensure that all Radio log communications are recorded and filed accordingly.
Prepare departure Data and avail the necessary information to crew members for crew briefing regarding weather, Notam if any and mission clearance.
Prepare, update and upload backlogs to the intranet system for financial implications.
In case of delayed communication regarding the aircraft, declare an emergency and follow procedure applied to SAR operations.
Ensure that all radio communication with all operational UN Aircrafts are active while in flight.
Record the ATD,ETDETA,PAX, cargo and the Aircraft GPS  position ,at the stipulated time.
To keep an updated: plotting, tracking and flight following tote board.
Any other duties as may be directed by the supervisor.

 Qualifications

Education:

Secondary school level, with diploma or certificate from Air Traffic Training centers or military educational institutions.

Work Experience:

At least (5) Five years of experience as an Air Traffic Controller and or flight dispatcher or Military equivalent positions.
Other Skills:

Basic computer skills. Ability to learn UN-specific computer applications.
Other: knowledge in aircraft refueling operations is desirable; valid driving permit is an advantage.
To understand and appreciate the prerequisite knowledge for flight following, have a sound knowledge and understanding of the air operations Emergency procedures as well as good radio communication skills
Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post     advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Job Description

Key Performance Areas:

Assists the Sub Program Manager in planning, coordinating, implementing, supervising, monitoring and evaluation of all the project activities within the agro-forestry/environment sector as per the project document and budgets;

Organizes and conducts field research involving data collection for statistical analysis on agro-forestry/environment sector operations, activities and related issues, facilitates monitoring and assessment of project impact on beneficiaries and makes recommendation for appropriate action;

Prepares and submits agro-forestry/environment sector reports in accordance with the donor reporting templates and requirements
Minimum Qualifications:

A University degree in Forestry from a reputable university
At least two (2) years working in Agro-forestry in a reputable firm or International Non Governmental Organization
Post-graduate diploma in project planning & management is desirable.
Computer literacy and proficiency in project planning & management software application
Certificate in supervisory skills, people management and/or leadership skills is desirable

Key Performance Areas:

Works with the Project Officer to initiate and coordinate the planning and implementation of the agro-forestry project activities;

Ensure that your presence within the workshop is consistent with working hours and all inspections /repair tasks assigned to you are completed in a timely manner;
Ensure the security of all UN owned equipment provided for use within the workshop area;
Maintaining the neatness of the working area, tool box and clothing free of debris and/or flammable material(oil/gas oil products, etc);Assist the workshop team with any additional tasks as required by the OIC Transport ,workshop and/or your supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma and or an equivalent of a Certificate of a Motor vehicle mechanic.
Work Experience: At least a minimum of four (4)years of progressively responsible experience in the field of motor vehicle mechanics.
Other: A valid Ugandan light vehicle driving mechanic.
