Purpose of the Job
The primary purpose of this job is to provide strategic direction to the Allan Galpin Health Centre II (AGHC II), and plan and coordinate delivery of health services of the directorate.

This is a senior post and candidates should have proven managerial ability, leadership skills and techniques, and should therefore be able to lead a team in ensuring the best patient care for the University community.

Qualifications and Experience

At least a Master’s degree in any of the major medical disciplines or in a health-related field (e.g. public health, family medicine, etc.) from a recognised institution.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBCHB) or similar qualification from a recognised institution.
Ten (10) years’ work experience of which five (5) should be in a health leadership and management position at a senior level(s) in a reputable institution(s)/organization(s).
Must have good interpersonal skills especially when dealing with students, staff and other clients.
Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and available to work after normal working hours.
Must be a person of high integrity with a good work ethic.
Must be a committed, mature Christian.

Job Description

Responsible for giving strategic direction to the Allan Galpin Health Centre.
To plan and coordinate delivery of health services in the directorate.
Together with other departments, oversee general sanitation and hygiene on campus.
Ensure that the Health Centre is licensed by the Uganda Medical and Dental Council.
To budget and ensure the directorate is well stocked with drugs, sundries and essential equipment.
Ensure medical staff are trained in handling the equipment in use.
Give guidance to and mentor staff, evaluate their performance and identify training needs.
Perform workplace, hostel and environmental surveillance for hazards/risks and advise students, workers and management on health and safety practices.
Manage disease outbreaks, treat students, staff and their families.
Ensure that patients with special illness e.g. Hypertension, diabetes, etc., are properly managed.
Responsible for health preventive promotion activities of the University.
Identify centres for referral of UCU patients and will hold regular meetings with the in-charge of these centres to ensure maximum benefit for referred patients.
Keep UCU administration briefed on matters related to the health of the students and staff.
Secretary to the Health & Safety Committee.
Advise the University community on the procedure for obtaining medical cover, if they so wish.
Supervise the Kampala Campus health operation and other centres as prescribed by the University Management.
Coordinate and enable collaboration between AGHC and medical bureaux, Ministry of Health, Joint Medical Store (JMS) as well as other relevant stakeholders.
Any other official duties assigned by the supervisor.
