Job Description
Overview:
Musana Jewelry is a Community-Based Organization in Lugazi, Uganda that trains, employs, and empowers underprivileged women through making jewelry that is sold in Uganda and abroad.
Musana Jewelry is currently in a phase of expansion, and is looking to hire a very capable Manager to lead the organization to a new level. The General Manager will spend approximately 50% of the workday working directly with the female artisans in the Lugazi area, 25% traveling and interfacing with outside businesses, and 25% on reporting and strategic planning.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with US-based partner organization regularly.
- Monitor the work of 9 full-time employees, and 40 part-time employees.
- Oversee the work of 2 Uganda-based interns.
- Monitor procurement, production, quality control, and supply-chain management.
- Coordinate the delivery of quality social services to the employees including English classes, family planning, and business training.
- Network with businesses, tourism companies, and government officials.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor degree (preferred) in Community Development, Business Management, Social Work, or other compatible degrees.
- Ability to utilize social media, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Experience in volunteer work, social causes.
- Fluent in English and Luganda.
- Familiarity with Lugazi and Kampala preferred.
Preferred Qualities:
- Interest in grassroots development, social development, women empowerment, poverty elimination, and jewelry/fashion preferred.
- Good communication, empathy, self-motivation, sense of humor, and flexibility.
- Ability to handle multiple roles simultaneously.
Must be willing to live in or commute daily to Lugazi, Uganda.
Salary based on previous experience.
