Job Vacancies at War Child Holland in Uganda


Job Location:       Kampala, Uganda
Contract:               1 year (extension is possible)
Starting date:       January 2012, or soon after

As Country Director (CD) you are overall responsible for War Child’s country programme and team in Uganda. As such, you chair the Management Team and lead and control the cohesion between the different departments and disciplines: program implementation / program development & quality control / support and financial control. As CD you directly manage a team of so called key positions holders (4) and indirectly a team of local staff (70). You report to the Deputy Director of Programmes based at headquarters in Amsterdam.

Since 2004 War Child Holland is working in 8 districts in Northern Uganda and from the countries’ head office in Kampala. The programme aims at improving psycho-social well being of children and youth, through education, child protection and psychosocial support intervention, to this end War Child seeks to empower children and youth and promote a supportive and protective environment.

Primary responsibilities

    Ensure Country Strategy & derived Strategies are developed, adhered to and employed in the most effective manner to the beneficiaries;
    Ensure coherence & cohesion between various teams and departments;
    Oversees all external relations and sets parameters for maximum utilisation to the maximum benefit of the WPA;
    Final responsibility for fundraising and financial capacity;
    Final responsibility for programme development and implementation
    Final responsibility for security, HR, logistics, finance and grant management;
    Heads the Management Team.

Profile

    A strong leader with at least 7 years relevant senior management experience in an international/ humanitarian context of which 3 years as a Country Director;
    Relevant academic background e.g. international relations, social sciences, business administration;
    Able to manage a large and diverse teams on a distance;
    Knowledge of child development and children’s rights issues;
    Knowledge of financial management & control, grant management and human resource management;
    Result- focused, good problem solving and social skills;
    Stress-resilient to be able to cope with deadlines and complex problems;
    Excellent written & oral expressions skills;
    Affinity with War Child’s mandate;
    Required: fluency in English, both written and verbal.
