Job Description

Recruitment of an Executive Director in a Commercial Bank

Our client, a commercial Bank in Uganda, which is a member of a leading Pan African full service financial institution with presence in major financial centres and across Africa, wishes to appoint a dynamic and result-oriented Executive Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors through the CEO, the ED will be responsible for wholesale, retail Banking, SMEs, and general marketing of the Bank while providing strategic support, in line with the Bank’s strategic plan. The ED will also provide support to the Bank’s product distribution and innovation leveraging on technology. The ED will be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Key responsibilities:

Drive the business growth of the Bank;
Craft strategies to drive business and ensure same is followed to achieve optimal revenues;
Oversee the fiscal operations and spearheading community service while ensuring financial viability;
Identify trends, opportunities, and environmental influences;
Drive initiatives required to achieve the product marketing and sales strategy for the Bank;
Ensure structures, systems and resources required to effectively service old and win new customers are in place and continuously reviewed using service level agreement(s);
Coordinate activities aimed at providing the customer with his requirements and delivering value to the customer always;
Ensure growth in the Bank’s volume of business in electronic products, cards and channels and other retail products country wide;
Manage and give direction to all marketing units;
Manage the key performance areas of subordinates;
Carry out other responsibilities required for the business growth, or as assigned by the CEO.
Person specifications

The successful candidate will have:
Good understanding of the Ugandan economy and an appreciation of the culture and environment associated with managing a Bank in a competitive, turbulent market-driven atmosphere, including building relationships throughout the country’s Banking sector;
Demonstrable track record of performance, executive presence and decision making, strong marketing and business development skills as well as a good understanding of e-commerce;
Evidence of the ability to interact, relate to, work with and support the activities of a dynamic Bank’s highly qualified staff and Board members is desirable.
We are looking for a candidate who holds a good first degree from a recognized university. A Post graduate degree in Banking will be an added advantage. The candidate must have at least ten years experience in financial institutions, five of which must be at a management level. Training in Strategic Leadership from a recognized institution, will be an added advantage.
