Principal Executive Engineer Job Vacancy at Public Service Commission

Job Title : PRINCIPAL EXECUTIVE ENGINEER - MINISTRY OF WORKS AND TRANSPORT
[MECHANICAL](3 VACANCIES)

AGE : 28 YEARS AND ABOVE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND WORKING EXPERIENCE:
Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus a minimum of a Postgraduate Diploma or its equivalent in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university or institution.
He/she should be a registered Engineer with Uganda Engineers Registration Board (UERB).
Applicants should have a minimum of six (6) years working experience, three (3) of which should have been gained at the level of a Senior Engineer in Government or equivalent level of experience from a reputable organization.
Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills and must be computer literate.
He/she must have a concern for quality and standards and knowledge of procurement, disposal and contract management and with a policy management strategic thinking.
DUTIES:
The incumbent will be responsible to the Assistant Commissioner/Mechanical Services for performing the following duties:-
? Supervising and controlling evaluation and advisory services in the division and prepare schedule of duties for the subordinate staff.
? Supervising the inspection of government vehicles/equipment for condition assessment and onward advise as to future usage.

? Ensuring prompt provision of advice to government departments and the public in mechanical engineering particularly on aspects related to vehicles and machinery.
? Carrying out annual inspection of government vehicles/equipment to determine their mechanical conditions and accordingly guide the Ministries/Departments through the status reports thus non tax revenue generated.
? Guiding the evaluation of equipment and vehicles procured by government departments, their disposal and handle arbitration cases.
? Reviewing specifications for models/makes of vehicles for government use;
? Supervising the management and maintenance of government vehicle/equipment registry.
? Developing standards for private garages/workshops that repair government vehicles and equipment.
? Planning for proper techniques of executing work.
? Preparing period status reports for the division.
? Ensuring observance of occupational safety and health regulations.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following vacant posts. Applications should be submitted in triplicate on Public Service Form No. 3 (2008) to the Secretary, Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 7080, Kampala to be received not later than Friday 13th April, 2012

Hand written applications are also acceptable. The advertisement can also be accessed from the Public Service Commission Website on www.psc.go.ug.
Applications should bear the title of the post as well as the reference number specified against the vacancy. Serving Officers will not be considered for Entry Level Posts in Scale U4, where applicable.

Applicants should attach three sets of certified photocopies of their certificates and testimonials, plus three recent certified passport size photographs.
Those already in Government Service should route their applications through their Heads of Department who should be informed of the closing date to avoid delay. Serving officers may submit an advance a copy of the application directly to the Public Service Commission to enable the Commission to carry out preliminary work on the applications. Applicants who shall not hear from the Public Service Commission on completion of the selection exercise should consider themselves unsuccessful.
