SECONDARY & BTVET TEACHERS’ TRAINING COORDINATORS

with expertise in Active Teaching & Learning (ATL) methodologies

In the framework of the Project “Improving the Training of BTVET Technical Teachers, Instructors & Health Tutors, and Secondary Teachers in Uganda – UGA 09 020 11″ implemented by the Ministry of Education & Sports and the Belgian Development Agency (BTC Uganda), four (4) National Training Coordinators with expertise in Active Teaching & Learning methodologies will be recruited as per following terms’of reference:

Duration: 48 months

Duty Stations: Muni National Teacher College, Arua District (1 position)

Kaliro National Teacher College (1 position)

Abilonino Community Polytechnic Instructors College, Lira ‘District (1 .position)

Mulago Health Tutors’ College, Mulago Hospital Complex,Kampala (1 position)

[All positions with frequent travels to the four project sites]

TASKS – Under the guidance and supervision of the

Project Coordination Team, each national expert will:

•    Deliver within the assigned college a comprehensive program of training and coaching on the practical side of teaching and learning covering all college teaching staff.

•    Organize, coordinate & supervise the implementation of project activities as per approved work plans.

•    Provide the specialist knowledge, expertise and experience of modern, active teaching & learning and other learner-centered approaches necessary to bring about a paradigm shift in the way teaching and learning is organized and provided in the Colleges.

•    Identify with the College management a number of mentor teachers covering the main broad subject fields.

•    Advise, coach and provide top-up on-the-job training, supervision, guidance and support to the mentor teachers, and guidance to the regular teachers, with a view to improving the effectiveness of their teaching through the adoption of active teaching & learning and other learner-centered methods.

•    Organize regular workshops with college staff to review progress, deliver further information/guidance, and troubleshoot any difficulties experienced by teachers in relation to teaching and learning.

•    Undertake regular class observations and provide feedback and guidance to the teachers, and participate in the practicum activities.

•    Assist in the design, preparation, adaptation and refinement of teaching materials for college teaching staff.

•    Introduce throughout the college the “course manual preparation” approach into the college.

•    Advise-, the College management and’ MOES on mlattefs1 related to the  improvement process – including its successes and its challenges.

•    Take a leading role in the dissemination by the College of successes and good practices to other colleges, 1 including institutions not supported by the project.

•    Any other tasks that may be prescribed from time to time, necessary to achieve improvement in teaching i and learning and to reach the Project objectives.

MINIMUM PROFILE:

•    A Master degree in education

•    A teaching qualification

•    At least 7 years of proven successful teaching experience at Secondary and/or BTVET levels

Proven, successful experience in teachers / instructors / health tutors’ education is an asset

•    Proven expertise in the practical side’ of teaching & learning, using modern ATL approaches

•    Good communicator and facilitator

•    Fluent in English

•    Able to bear stress and haying no objection to  working overtime
