Job Title: Nursing officer (1 position)

Job Description

Job purpose:

To carry out nursing procedures in a study clinic and provide medical care to study participants.

Roles & Responsibilities

Medical management of sick study participants Ensure proper clinic data collection in line with MRC Kyamulibwa clinic.
Prepare regular clinic reports and suggest improvement in the clinic management
Perform phlebotomy and collection of other samples as may be required
Track participant results and present to study physicians for appropriate action.
Offer relevant health education to the study communities. Provide counselling to clients when needed. Dispense medicines to clients according to prescriptions provided.
Review and update clinic supplies and make requisitions appropriately.
Provide detailed study information to participants and obtain consent.
Education. Skills and Experience needed

• Diploma in Nursing

• Atleast 2 years experience in clinical and research setting

• User knowledge in computer applications and short courses on research methods, GCP training and counselling may be desirable

Terms and conditions:

Successful applicants will serve a one year contract.

Other terms and conditions for the post are within the MRC salary scales and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The MRC/UVRI Research Unit on AIDS is a bilateral multi-disciplinary research organization funded by Medical Research Council (UK), DFID (UK) and other donor organizations and has been operational in Uganda since 1988. It is a centre of excellence in research conducting large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials, biological and immunological research and behavioral studies which have generated a wealth of research results to inform policy and practice. The unit established a field clinic in Kyamulibwa, one of its field stations to offer medical care to study participants and also conduct clinic based studies.
The Unit therefore invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the above position.

Terms and conditions:
Successful applicants will serve a 10 month contract with a possibility of renewal, if funding permits, inclusive of a 3 months’ probation. Other terms and conditions for the post are within the MRC salary scales and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Location: The position will be based in Entebbe with frequent travel to the field.
Start date: As soon as possible
