Job Title: Laboratory Biomedical Waste Management Advisor

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership in developing and conducting an assessment of laboratory biomedical waste management practices in Uganda at various levels, and identifying interventions to improve laboratory biomedical waste management services and the availability of the supplies needed to manage this waste effectively.

Participate in the development of laboratory biomedical waste management tools in line with recommendations from the assessment Participate in planning and coordination meetings with national, regional and district health, veterinary, and local government officials and other development partners on issues related to laboratory biomedical waste management.

Build strong linkages between the Project, the Ministry of Health, CPHL,veterinary laboratories, and other partners. Together with the Project, Country Director and the home office team, develop and monitor quarterly workplans for implementing activities.

Preparation of well-written activity reports and progress reports as requested to the Project Country Director and home office team. in accordance with USG regulations and JSI policies.

Qualifications and Skills

A Biomedical, or Medical Laboratory, or Medical Science degree or its equivalent,

preferably in medical laboratory /veterinary laboratory services. Master of Public Healthwould be of added value.

• Laboratory bench work experience and knowledge of specimen collection processing, storage, and disposal.

• At least five years of experience working with laboratory structures at nationaland district or health facility levels in Uganda.

• Specific experience in developing and implementing health care waste management and/or biomedical laboratory waste management policies and procedures.

• Experience in capacity building and health system strengthening initiatives in Uganda.

• Understanding of MOH, CPHL structures and how they relate to providing laboratory services in Uganda.

• Excellent knowledge of diseases of epidemic potential, especially those that commonly affect communities in Uganda.

• Basic knowledge and/or experience in health commodity logistics management

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Good technical writing skills.

• Fluency in English; reading, writing and speaking.
