Counselling Jobs at Action Africa Help International in Uganda


Job Title: Gender Based Violence (GBV)Counsellor(1 position)

Duty Station: Kyangwali/Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement

Job summary: To provide coordination in the implementation of GBV interventions made by key actors in the Refugee Protection Network in line with AAH-I

Strategic objectives:

Establish and maintain an up-to-date database of reported SGBV cases within the refugee community;
Monitor all SGBV related issues and closely co-ordinate with key actors to ensure on-going, accurate SGBV data collection and entry;
Progressively generate appropriate periodic reports and monitor trends related to SGBV;
Document innovation and good practices in the prevention of and response to SGBV;
Inform and participate in community and stakeholder meetings and forums on matters related to SGBV and bolster inter-agency coordination/cooperation by ensuring timely intervention and follow up on referrals;
Liaise with and promote relevant entities to meet their responsibilities with regard to the prevention and response to SGBV against refugees in observance of universally recognized standards;
Plan and oversee the delivery of the counselling services to GBV survivors, in a non-discriminatory manner.
Establish follow up plans to ensure GBV survivors are fully supported to recovery
Attend relevant professional and programmatic meetings in line with provision of GBV and counselling services.
Conduct home visits to referred families where relevant.
Arrange regular monitoring sessions with volunteers
Interview separated children, unaccompanied minors and other children-at-risk for the purpose of preparing Best Interest Assessment (BIA) reports;
Assist in the organization and facilitation of capacity building activities e.g. workshops, trainings or information dissemination, for community based social and/or extension workers;
In coordination with the supervisor, liaise with and foster a collaborative networking relationship with other stakeholders to facilitate social assistance to AAH-I refugee clients;
Carry out any other duties as required by the supervisor


Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’sdegree in social sciences, community psychology, social work, sociology, counselling and strong database skills. Good knowledge of SGBV issues and human rights doctrine.
At least twoyears’ work experience in similar or higher position. Experience in database management and work in the field of refugee protection and assistance a distinct advantage.


Skills and competencies:

Computer literacy a must - knowledge of MS Office required; Data handling skills and previous exposure to database management essential;
Good knowledge of child rights and prevention and response to SGBV issues;
Strong research, capacity building, analytical and report writing skills;
Strong coordination, communication and interpersonal skills;


Languages:

Proficiency in Swahili knowledge is an added advantage.
