Job Title: Palliative Care Nurse (3 posts)

JOB PURPOSE:
To provide comprehensive and integrated care for terminally ill cancer/or AIDS patients and their families at Hospice, in Hospital and the community while supporting on -site training for all health professionals and non professionals across the continuum in palliative care knowledge and skills.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Patient Care:
Provides comprehensive and integrated care for the terminally ill cancer and family at Hospice, Hospitals and in the community
Provides support and counsels patients, family and other careers.
Gives information concerning diseases, medication plus care needed to patients and relatives.
Training
Supports placement and training programs.
Constantly disseminates knowledge regarding appropriate care of the terminally ill to other health professionals, volunteers and family members.
Cares and supports patients and teaches them how to care for themselves.
Assists in building a reservoir of resource persons, materials and audiovisual aids for training in Palliative care.
Advocacy:
Actively promotes access to comprehensive quality palliative care to people living with HIV/AIDS and cancer and their families
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Registered Nursing Certificate from a recognized educational institution; Minimum of two years work experience in a clinical setting preferably in palliative care or related specialty e.g. HIV or cancer care; and Basic computer literacy.
