Job Title: POLICY OFFICER-AGRIBUSINESS/ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY

About this Job:
For the period 2012-2015, the Embassy Of the Kingdom of Netherlands through its development cooperation strategy in Uganda will focus on two spearheads: Security and Rule of law and Food Security. Economic diplomacy will be an important element of the Food Security spearhead as well as part of the general services the Embassy offersTo help in this, the Embassy is recruiting a POLICY OFFICER-AGRIBUSINESS/ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY

Job Summary: The Policy Officer Agribusiness/ Economic Diplomacy will be part of the policy staff that falls under the Head of Development Cooperation and will work closely with the Dutch and local policy officers in the Food Security cluster. The successful candidate will be responsible for answering trade and investment inquiries, brokering linkages between Dutch and Ugandan companies and ensuring adequate implementation of agro food value chain projects.

Specific Responsibilities:

Provide trade and market information, contacts and general economic information to Dutch and Ugandan companies interested in bilateral trade and/or investments.
Pro-actively identify business opportunities in Uganda for Dutch companies through for example market studies and report on them to the Netherlands (o.a. trade promotion agency, private sector intermediary organisations)
Receive Dutch/Uganda business people and advise them on doing business in Uganda and possible instruments for cooperation.
Assist Dutch companies in case of trade disputes/disagreements.
Organise regular events for the Dutch business community in Uganda.
Assess work plans and progress reports of agrofood projects and periodically visit these.
Broker linkages between agribusiness projects and other relevant initiatives and institutions in Uganda, as well as with Dutch companies and institutions.
Keep updated and report on ‘doing business’ and agribusiness developments in Uganda.
Requirement:
Qualifications and Experience:

Masters degree in economics, business administration, or related area, preferably with some years of study in the Netherlands or another Western country
At least five years of experience working, preferably in the field of agricultural business development.
Good knowledge of the economic and business life in Uganda and the actors therein, preferably with a special focus on the agribusiness sector.
Experience with project management cycle.
Fluency in English.
Knowledge of computers, internet, Word and Excel.
Team player, good analytical capacity, strong networker.
