Job Title: ACCOUNTS OFFICER (Mbarara)

About this Job:
MJAP is a program under Makerere University School of Medicine and is implemented as a collaborative partnership between Mulago and Mbarara University Teaching hospitals. Established in November 2004 with funding from the Presidential Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and technical assistance from Centers for Disease Control (CDC), MJAP has provided quality HIV testing, care and treatment at Mulago and Mbarara Teaching Hospitals and their catchment areas. MJAP received a five year Grant under the Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief II (PEPFAR II) to continue providing the excellent services they have been offering. ACCOUNTS OFFICER (Mbarara)

Reports to: Program Manager – Mbarara

Main Purpose of the Job: To ensure that the organization’s financial resources in the Program Area are adequate for effective implementation of the planned activities, well managed, properly utilized and satisfactorily accounted for

Summary of the roles:

Processing of all organization payments in a timely and accurate manner.
Recording all financial data into the financial data base & ensuring daily updates.
Maintaining the organization Advance ledger and ensuring timely accountability for all funds.
Maintaining the office petty cash float and ensuring that the office does not run short of petty cash funds.
Initiating payment requisitions in line with the Financial guidelines.
Referencing and filing all financial documents.
Requirement:
Person Specifications:

First or second class degree in B.Com or BBA or its equivalent from a well recognized University/institution.
Experience in handling donor funds preferably CDC or USAID
At least four years working experience in Accounting work preferably in an NGO with Sub partners
Principles of Accounting
National taxation policies and regulations
Accounting skills.
Good Interpersonal and communication skills.
Computer skills with hands on experience using various Accounting packages and Microsoft Windows
Attention to detail.
High levels of integrity.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
