Job Title: Sub Area Manager/Education Specialist for Youth Earning by Learning (YEL) (01 position)

Job Description


Job Purpose:                                                                                                      

Reporting to the West Area Manager, the Education Specialist will take the lead in developing and managing Save me Children’s Education for Youth Earning by learning (YEL) technical portfolio of vocation education programs in the western region and will be responsible tor achievement of program goals and objectives and for reporting on program implementation and outcomes.                                                      

The person will be responsible for overall management of the project, coordination of all the project activities in accordance with vocational education requirements in Uganda and will also provide line management and supervision of all the section field staff.

In addition, the Education Specialist will be responsible for working with the Education Leadership Team in developing the overall YEL strategy/model, increasing staff capacity to deliver high quality program, and advocacy at a national and regional level to be the voice for vulnerable youths in Uganda. This will include overseeing effective implementation of planned objectives for the YEL project, the provision of technical guidance to on – going activities assistance to and leadership of fundraising efforts and proposal development activities, and representation of the vocational education sub theme to external stakeholders                                                                                                      

Academic background, Experience & Person Specifications:                

A minimum of a Degree In Humanities or a relevant discipline Graduate or post-graduate training in Education, project planning & management, monitoring and evaluation, community development & research or related field is an added advantage                                                  
A minimum of 5 years relevant working experience with at least 3 years at management level in an international NGO.                                                    
Experience m vocational education and Development programming                                                    
Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to child rights issues, and the direct link between children’s fights and laws and policies of government.
Commitment to gender equity, child rights, community empowerment, and grassroots development approaches
Working knowledge of Non formal programming and policy development.                                                  
Understanding of national government policy frameworks on Non Formal education, vocational education and how to contribute to youth development with political analysis skills, sensitivity and diplomacy.                                              
A professional progression towards increasing technical responsibilities.                                  
Strong financial, planning and budget management skills and experience.                                                      
Strategic management and people skills                                            
Effective interpersonal skills – oral and written communication                              
Computer literacy skills – MS Office applications, word. Excel, PowerPoint, Spread sheets                                                        
Strong documentation, advocacy, facilitation and presentation Skills
