Job Title: Learning Support Teacher
   
Aga Khan Education Services, Uganda is an organization committed to enriching the lives of “many generations of multi-facial and multi-cultural students’ populations” through the provision of quality and affordable education.
AKES, U now seeks for an experienced, enthusiastic, innovative and energetic Learning Support Teacher who will be responsible for the uptake of students’ Mathematical/Numeracy skills at the Primary and High School and will report to the Head of Department, Learning Support Unit.
Identify students’ learning needs in numeracy/ mathematics and develop strategies to address the needs.
Develop a learning programme that meets individual and group learning needs with a focus on numeracy skills, such as computation and problem solving skills.
Develop a resource bank for teaching students of diverse learning needs and keep accurate record of students’ learning progress.
Organise and manage resources that are accessible and appropriate to students in the Learning Support Unit.
Analyse academic achievement of every student attending the Learning Support Unit for numeracy issues and formulate suitable programmes for academic improvement.
Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity and progression for all students attending the Learning Support Unit for support in numeracy/ mathematics.
Work with parents to ensure that they are kept abreast of their children’s progress and invite them as needs arise.
Keep a record of the parents’ visits to the Learning Support Unit and their participation in their children’s learning.
Work with classroom/specialist teachers to support students in a way that fosters a long- term interest and understanding of numeracy/ mathematics as a life-skill.
Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree in Education specializing in Mathematics and additional training in special needs education will be an added advantage.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position is required.
Ability to work with Primary and Secondary school students.
Knowledge and sensitivity to students' diverse cultures and learning difficulties.
Have good grasp of a variety of child centered teaching approaches.
