Job Title: VOLUNTEER LAWYERS


Job Description

Avocats Sans Frontières (ASF) is an international NGO that is working in the justice sector to promote and protect the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of the most vulnerable groups and/or individuals.

ASF is implementing a project on curbing pre-trial detention in Kampala with a focus on defending the rights of the detainees to a fair and speedy trial by provision of free legal assistance and representation. ASF, an equal opportunities employer is aiming at engaging volunteer lawyers on specific times to conduct specific assignments as part of this project.



Qualifications:-



The volunteer lawyers must be persons of integrity, hard working and able to work under minimum supervision. They must be holders of the following qualifications:-

A university degree in law from a reputable university.
A post graduate diploma in legal practice or other sufficient proof of having undertaken that course.
Possession of a practicing certificate is an added advantage.
Scope of work:-



To collect information from remand warrants and other relevant documents from the detention warrants of the detainees in ASF selected prisons.
Recommend cases for consideration for legal assistance and representation by the advocates.
Prepare case files with all relevant documents and information on the recommended files for consideration of the advocates.
Conduct legal research in terms of interviewing selected clients and recoding statements of the clients for purposes of filing to inform case consideration.
Any other duties that shall form time to time be assigned by the head of mission and the advocates.
