Job Description

The Government of Uganda through the Office ot Prime Minister (OPM) is coordinating the implementation of the Peace Recovery and Development Programme (PRDP) lor Northern Uganda. Privale Sector Foundation Uganda manages the Business Uganda Development Scheme (BUDS) that is funded by the UK Department’ for Internal™al Developmeni {DFID) lo boost private sector growth, investment and employment opportunities in northern Uganda for Ihe peridd June 2010-June 2015. The overall objective ol the prajeel is ‘to stimulate pro-poor economic growth in region and lo better retain the economic benehls accruing liom agriculture and other martlet sectors in the PRDP sub-regions including parts of Bunyoro. Achoti. Lango. West Nile. Karamonja. Teso and Bukedi. Private Sector Foundation Uganda wishes to recruit additional staff to fit the position below in the Gulu project office. The position is open to only candidates from the PRDP region with excellentl knowledge of both English andAcholi languages.
SCHEME OFFICER;

The major task under this contract is lo intensify support lo the Miero, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), associations and cooperatives by providing Jar improved hand-holding services and encouraging them to participate n Ihe economic recovery of Ihe region. Specifically the Officer will;
Identify and interview pofenlial clients for suppod under BUDS.
Interview prospective clients both al the BUDS offices and at their places ol Business, explaining how BUDS can benefit (hern
Provide Private Sector enterprises with basic guidance in defining their business needs, identity business support services that are mosl beneficial, practical and cosl effective for business growth.
Monitor and follow through on clients’ relations, i.e. ‘handhold ing” them to Ihe completion of their activity. Review and Evaluate client’s proposal and claims for grants.
Participate in the Scheme promotion activities within Ihe PRDP sun-regions.
Undertake any activities as are necessary to implement and meet the objectives of the project.
• Participate m the preparation of proposals aimed al attracting business development services, skills developmeni and capflai investment related activities for clients in the PRDP.
Undertake any such duties as shall be requested by your supervisors}.
b) Minimum Professional Qualification
* Candidate musl be a university graduate wilh a degree In Economics OR a degree in a Business related field from a reputable institution.
‘ Proven abilify Lo understand, analyze and evafuale the operations of individual businesses, in a multi-sectorial business environment Abilify 10 work independently for extended periods without direct supervision while meeting targets and deadlines.
Eipener.ce with Micro and Small Businesses will be an added advantage
Excellent computer skills including but not limited to MS Word. Excel, MS Project 8 Power Point
• Additional project related knowledge and
qualifications .with training in post conflict management and sensitivity will be of added advantage.
c) Minimum Prior Experience
A minimum of five years experience with two years of working with donor funded, large business or international agency in pest conflict regions.
d) Reporting
For day to day activities Ihe Scheme officer will report to the Scheme Manager BUDS-DFID.
e) Duration:
The PSFU will offer Ihe Scheme Officer a two year renewable contract subject to satisfactory performance and availabilily or financing.
