EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REQUIRED

Send a Cow Uganda, (SACU) is a development Non-Governmental Organisation founded on Christian principles affiliated to Send-A-Cow United Kingdom. SACU partners with farmer communities to impart knowledge and skills that address poverty and malnutrition in simple, pragmatic ways. Currently SACU has a Governing Board comprising of five (5) Ugandans and two (2) UK representatives.

Send a Cow Uganda’s Vision is to work with vulnerable people in Uganda to overcome poverty and malnutrition in a sustainable manner through the development of animal production, organic farming and local self-sustaining groups

Send a Cow Uganda now seeks a highly experienced and mature individual to fill the position of Executive Director.

The Executive Director reports to the Chairman of the SACU Board of Directors and will be the leader of the SACU Senior Leadership team. He/she will be responsible for leading and supervising the development, implementation, maintenance, and review of the Send a Cow Uganda strategy, systems, structures, and staffing in line with the organisation’s Strategic Plan, organisational policies and procedures and recommendations from the Send a Cow – Uganda Board of Directors.

 Key Responsibilities will include:

Lead SACU in developing and implementing strategies for resource mobilization, especially fund raising, in line with the SACU strategy and funding guidelines

Provide leadership in the development, implementation and monitoring of SACU’s strategy, annual plans, programs and budgets in line with key performance targets and indicators agreed with the Board of Directors.
Direct the operations of SACU and safeguard its assets and resources and perform other related duties in consultation with the Board necessary to sustain SACU as a sustainable development institution
Develop and maintain a close and effective network of relationships and linkages with SACU’s partners, local and international development organizations in line with the SACU’s vision and mission.
Ensure optimum utilization of program and budgets and the overall performance of SACU in line with the SACU strategy and decision of the Board
Initiate, implement, supervise, maintain and improve SACU’s structures, systems, procedures and guidelines which facilitate the implementation of SACU’s strategy and policy decisions as approved by the Board.
Lead the maintenance of a robust HR function, empowering and motivating employees in line with SACU’s strategy and HR Policies
Provide technical advice and feedback to the Board, on a periodic basis on actions, programs, policies, and performance of SACU as well as developments in SACU’s external environment that may impact on SACU and its operations with the aim of enhancing SACU’s spiritual, programmatic and financial impact.
Lead the implementation of all SACU’s external communication, policy advocacy on key programmatic issues relating to the work of SACU in line with the SACU Strategy and direction from the board
Provide Spiritual leadership and direction for SACU in line with organisations values and Christian statement.

Experience and Training

Should have at least 6 years post-qualification experience with at least (5) years at a senior management position/ strategic leadership role in a reputable NGO preferably with strong Christian orientation and program management and development management.
Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of development programming and management, fundraising, networking, policy advocacy, monitoring and evaluation and donor relationship management
He/she should have demonstrable experience and a track record of liaising with development partners, developing and implementing development projects / programs, working in partnerships, financial resource management, leadership / supervision of a team or teams of people
Computer literacy – familiarity with word processing, use of spread sheets, presentation software as well as internet & E-mail use
 Education

Advanced university degree in any of the following fields: Economics, Statistics, Social sciences, agriculture, Business Administration or Development Studies Possession of an additional professional qualification in project management is an added advantage.

Willingness, ability and readiness to support SACU’s spiritual and programmatic vision and mission
Mature Christian with Christian Leadership experience
Well-developed conceptual, analytical skills with the ability to provide expert advice in relation to formulation of development programs and proposal writing
Excellence in effectively communicating with multiple audiences, strong interpersonal and networking skills
Change agent, decision maker, team player, creative, innovative, and initiative in developing action plans and resolving problems as they occur
High integrity and professionalism
